ОтветитьThank you sir! I found this class especially useful for practicing roundhouse kicks. Your drill with the pivot will be something that I will keep in my tool belt as I'm still working of flexibility due to years of inactivity.
Ответитьthank you. I love these videos and they feel great for someone who is a survivor like me. It makes me feel empowered to learn martial art techniques. Even though I may never need to use them IRL, practicing and knowing I can protect myself definitely reinstates a sense of self-regency and self-agency. through empowering action. Thank you. From survival, I thrive.

ОтветитьGreetings, Sensei Adam! I'm going to keep progressing, but I'm also going to review and practice each lesson again and again. So, I've decided to keep a log of each day. I'm sure most people would practice once or twice a week, but I've always been a dedicated, "Vegeta" type of athlete, so I'm pushing myself to work at this every day. "Always improving."

Day 2 - Getting better at flowing/linking between the snap kick and the roundhouse. I find the footwork is difficult to do quickly, and at first I was trying to keep pace with you; then, I took your advice of "control; do it slowly, and keep control", and slowed down my pace (about 1/3 your pace). The more I focus on controlling each movement deliberately, the better I can sense what my body should be doing and the result is a marked improvement over yesterday.
My blocking feels like second nature, now; I've spent a lot of time practicing the drill from this lesson [imagine an attacker from either side and block accordingly]. Other than the full drill/kata/progression of "low block, high block, roundhouse", I don't feel awkward with any of these movements. Really focusing on your lesson to make sure each block, kick, or strike "snaps" as my foot hits the ground.
Doing better at stretching; practicing yoga the last couple years helped me immensely when starting TKD. I can't do the full splits, yet - still about 6 or 7 inches from the floor - but I'm getting deeper. The stretches at the end/cooldown of this lesson are also tough; specifically the one where you put one leg back [you mentioned it's a preparation for kicking] - but I'm improving, and I keep pushing the stretch further each time.
The conditioning for this lesson is tough lol I can get my snap kicks, straight kicks, and axe kicks above my waist, but I can't hold my leg there with this exercise. I'm doing better than last night, but it's funny how much lower my leg is than yours. I understand/feel what you meant my "tell your muscles to relax"; it took a bit, but the way I see it it's like your bladder - I get it, and I can feel it working. I've taken to doing something you didn't teach, here, when I stretch, though, to help me push my stretches further: I sort of bounce or rock, each time pushing further. I've found it helps me reach further than otherwise.
