This is likely the best video on amps I've ever seen. I plan to watch it several times. I can't thank you enough, Dagen. Such useful information and so well presented. You're an artist.

Regarding the origin 50 , I'm trying to dial it to a bit metal tone, what pedal would you recommend? I'm using the GT-1 by boss and cant get it dial in as good as i did my katana 50.
I know it might not be the amp for metal but i would like to get it close.

I use a ToneKing Gremlin and think it's absolutely perfect for home use. Now I would like a Fender Vibro too. That sounded sweet.

A hotrod deluxe is so 'not' for around the house.
Thats if you like to have friendly neighbours.

The only thing I do not like about the VOX AC15 and the VOX AC30.. With greenbacks these amps weigh 22kg and 32kg.. I know they have big transformers for their wattage but come on... A Fender hot rod deluxe is a 40W amp and it weighs 18.6kg. The Marshall origin 50C weighs 18.2kg but has a small magnet speaker .. Change the speaker to a Celestion Creamback 65 and the weight would be 19.3kg. A weight like this would be better for the mighty VOX AC15 when lugging it around on one handle.. Don't get me started on the Vox AC30 onetwelve.. 24.5kg single 12" with a single handle on top..

The Boss Katana changed the game. There is VERY little it can't do. The only downside is that it is "jack of all, master of none". You can find amps that are better at somethings but can't even DO other things the Katana can. It's not top in any 1 category (other than options) but is nowhere near the bottom either, and let's be honest Boss is one of the best when it comes to effects and you have got an endless supply at the ready. The "Katana Library" app for mobile is a GREAT tool. It's not as in-depth as the tone studio, and costs $10 to fully unlock all the options (WELL worth it) but to be able to use your smart phone to control your Amp in this detail is fantastic.

Katana is garbage.
If you don't know why you shouldn't play guitar. It's not for you.
But you still can impress your grandma with your fabulous guitar licks I guess.

As an aside, whomever Vox has writing their manuals does a cracking good job. Years ago, I bought a VT20+ to play at home, and found the manual that came with it to be useful, well laid out and logical. I felt like I knew my way around it's features with one read through.

Contrast that with the copy of War and Peace that came with my Digitech bass multi-effect unit. That manual was confusing as hell! I think whoever wrote that thing REALLY hates bass players... They should have hired out, and gotten the guy who writes Vox's, lol.

I'd love to own an AC-15.

I just enjoy hearing you play. I learn a lot from it and I usually learn something new from the topic of the video. I already own a Les Paul, it was my first guitar and I just bought my second. I added a Fender American Pro to the mix. I've wanted a single coil for a really long time.

I've had my boss katana for 3 years and it's been great, the blues deluxe would be in for repairs by now, fender treat their customers like shite, the blues deluxe is a fantastic amp but fender will not sort the issues out

The Boss Katana is sooooo impressive, I have the 50w MK1, got it new for £160 about 3.5-4 years back, such an impressive and versatile bit of kit!!! Absolutely brilliant, weighs nothing, can get loads of great tones out of it and it can keep up with a drum kit, it's crazy what Boss have done with that and I can only assume theyve made it better with the MK2

I'm about to start doing very mobile gigs with a pearl traveler setup. Guitar is fender player and was wondering if a 1w tube amp is loud enough to keep up with the traveler drums? If not would a 5? Or a 10 I know my Marshall dslc40 on triode mode 20 watts I couldn't even turn past 4 outside with a band.

Would 5 just be enough? And 1 not enough?

Had a back surgery can't move heavy stuff anymore, eventually I will be playing shows flat on my back on the ground 😂 even considering decking out a squire classic 50 for the extra weight loss for short gigs and thrashing on it :)

But need serious inquiry :)

I’m very tossed between the Marshall origin 50 and the Fender Hotrod deluxe iv. I play mostly classic rock, blues and a little pop but I’m trying to find my own sound and not ride the tonal shirttails of the guitar gods before. I will be using around 5-10 pedals. Any opinions? All help is muchly appreciated!

For Blues and Southern Rock, the Fender Twin Reverb rocks, hands down. Then comes the VOX. But for more diverse styles of music, I go with the Blackstar Silverline, then the VOX, and then the Orange. Those three sounded the most tonally balanced that can deliver for all styles.
