The ID team that created this masterpiece made every other game developer team on the planet look like a bunch of incompetent chumps with this incredible visual magnum opus. Even now the gameplay is still at or above cutscene quality for any other game.

I never really thought about this but it’s really funny to think that the writers probably had such a hard time trying to come up with a badass villain that can stand up to doom guy, and one of them probably just said “what if it was like a dark link thing and it’s an evil version of himself” and they just went with it.

The story of Ancient Gods had some very powerful moment, but in aggregate, I really hate what Ancient Gods did to the plot. I felt the plot of the Doom reboot was refreshing because it was so simple and wholesome. Good vs evil. But everything seems so morally ambiguous after Ancient Gods. It might have worked if the series started out differently, but it feels really out of place. The loading screens in Doom 2016 refer to your enemies as "the wicked", and they're not quoting anybody so you'd assume its just some objective fact of the lore, yet after finishing the Ancient Gods, I wasn't sure if objective good and evil existed in the Doom universe anymore.

There are so many good ideas in between the two games and the DLC, but it feels the plot was pulling in two contradictory directions.

Rewatching this and the line ‘he is you, in their world’ got me thinking, you know how in the Christian Bible it says man was created in God’s image? How terrifying do you have to be for a god to be created in YOUR image? I’d say I’m glad he’s at peace now, but rehearing all of the testaments in DOOM 2016 says that he was still suffering in that sarcophagus. Doomguy is literally so angry that he physically can’t be in peace. Mans has got to keep killing to feel any form of something.

The lighting in this game is no where near the level it was in the previous Doom. 2016 Doom had much better visuals because of this and a better environment. This game was targeted to the micro nerds. I don't understand the platforming in this game at all. It doesn't belong in Doom.

I get it, I do; Doomguy deserves to rest.

But don’t you think that a, I dunno, eternal magical coma is a little overkill? Like that’s not rest, that’s being trapped inside of your own body, and you’re not the one who can control how it’s used or what happens to it. Makes me so confused how an anti-authority, god-defying super-soldier blessed with the divinity to take down Hell’s armies was essentially turned into a special toy for the gods to play with like a pawn when deemed necessary. His entire fight was for *humanity*, not the for gods; yet, even when his fight is over, his humanity is still stripped from him.

I'm sorry, but his face is so damn ugly but it's whatever I guess
