How to get in the musical at my school

Ensemble: (what I am/ usually get) good at singing but kinda quiet and un-expressive- kinda mid at dancing( also ensemble IS fun and still important

Lead/Solo: ATTITUDE, talking to everyone a lot, theatre kid behavior, like a lot of it, more emotion in the song, clean dance but not necessarily ballet dancing.

Me, a stagehand: Sleep deprivation to the highest of degree... I backstage managed my very first musical. By the end of it, my eyebags made me look like a racoon and I had lost all feeling in my feet.

This was almost 2 years ago and I've done a couple more shows, but just as a regular stagehand (so much less stressful).

I still can't feel my feet though.

i’ve done so many shows for my school i can’t even count. but it mainly consists of: tired overwhelmed directors, hangry highschoolers, and screaming children

man this made me sad :( im an actor and tomorrow is closing night for the musical im in this year. not gonna do any other until summer bc thats when they start up again UGHHH i hate when a musical ur in ends. Worst feeling

One of my favorite things about being in a musical is the aggressive lip syncing of songs back stage when you're waiting for your queue. There's nothing quite like Rolf and Sister Margaretta aggressively mouthing the words to My Favorite Things.

Musicals be the only place you can act like absolute idiot, be stressed out of you mind (dress & tech rehearsal, we all know) and create brilliance.

As a theater kid, i can confirm this is indeed what being in a musical is like. But there is more....we also have the craziest inside jokes you can only understand if you were in the musical, the directors telling you to project onstage but when you are whispering in the wings you are "way too loud", extreme post-closing night depression and HONEY. (you get it if you're a theater kid). Also that magical feeling when your director accidentally says a word from the show and you all start singing and it sounds amazing even though there is no music and you're all just having fun. Man, I love being a theater kid

At my school, after the cast list comes out we have to accept or decline our roles and then we have the read through and then we have the music, choreo, and blocking rehearsals, then it’s all the same from there.

People who don’t like theatre will make fun of musical theatre actors for being “cringe” but they forget that to be in musical theatre you need to AT LEAST be able to sing, act, and dance, and very often you will need to do all at once, and you will also most likely pick up other skills along the way

A musical seems from this video like a quick thing but it takes years for Broadway a and a few month for schools and college musicals like 7,6,8 months

i really really wanna join musical theater. some of my best friends do it and i think it would be really fun to join them. few problems. I CAN’T SING. Also i’m on a dance team and i can’t do both 😭. i might have to give up on my dream of being an actor.
