H5 is NOT a "field" recorder (although it could be used for that purpose)

H5 is a nice recorder, i use w/ SSH-6 capsule. F3 don´t suport capsules.
Long life for H5

what about the noise floor/preamps that I read about? it seems it worked pretty well for your field recordings? or was that not environmental sound…?

interesting stuff! What kind of pistol grip are you using for your mic? Looks sturdy.

I am using H5 for recording for around 3 years already and I would like to say, that it is amazingly sturdy thing! I do agree that now when there is 32 bit float tech on market there are better recorders, but F3 or F6 are NOT handheld and if you want something that has a mic capsule attached to it (as a HANDHELD recorder series has), then H5 is a perfect choice even now. Yes, it does not have locking XLR imputs and it does have pretty noisy preamps (the signal from the capsule itself is much LESS noisy than from the inputs by the way), but it is sturdy omg! During the 3 years of constant use I have dropped it three times and one time so hard, that I thought that it will fall appard, but it does work without any problems until now. So what I wanted to say is that it is not bad option at all. But, if the budget allows - then F6 or even better - F8n Pro are much much better options. But then you will need much bigger budget and you will not use them as a separate handheld recorders, you will need external mics with them.

Hey, I'm currently searching a portable audio recorder which works great with motor and exhaust sounds from a motorcycle. I've seen some others using the H5 and it sounded great. But after your video I'm not too convinced anymore.. Do you maybe have a recommendation? Have a great day!

Hey what camera do you use? It looks astonishing. And I have the Sennheiser connected with xlr to my Zoom H5 with 48hz phantom power from the batteries of H5. But the noise is unbearable. Do you have any suggestion on how to fix it?

Your video introduced me to the F3 and 32-bit recording. I cancelled my order of the H5 and ordered the F3. I had a nagging feeling the H5 was outdated and you confirmed it.

Saw you in the comments of Curtis Judd’s channel, so came to have a look for some reason. Nice channel! Love the sound heavy b’roll. Thinking of upgrading to the F3 too..

F3 is a good 30-40% more expensive and has no microphone attached or attachable to the body, and no 3.5 mm TRS connector. I hoped F3 would be an upgrade for the F1, but it is not.
