Didn't make the death metal connection until reading the comments and listening again. Makes sense of a lot of IDM rhythmic inspiration too. The ancient Javanese obviously had some pretty advanced hammer sequencers!!

This is fascinating to my western accustomed ears. At first it seems chaotic but then you get into it and you realise that the melody is so interesting and there's a complexity behind the pitches being used. I yearn to fully understand the music, it's otherwise incredible.
