do you know if there is a way to set up the viewfinder that there is >>ONLY BLACK<< around the image while shooting
ОтветитьI was giving up with my Canon 5D Mk4 because all the photos were not sharp at all. I'd messed about with settings for hours and was going to give up and go back to my Canon 5D MK3 until I watched this video and changed my settings to what Roy was using, blimey it worked. I couldn't believe it, what a difference in the photos, they are sharp now and I'm not touching the settings from now on. Thank you very much for sharing your setup.
ОтветитьRoy, this was so helpful. Thank you!
ОтветитьIs this the settings you use to take professional photos? I have yet to figure it out 😭
ОтветитьFor the mark iv, what's the highest iso you have used in low light without doing editing? I do school events indoors for my son's school, special needs, low lights and many children are sensitive to flash.
ОтветитьErarr 20
ОтветитьHi Roy, I'm new to the world of concert and event photography. I'm looking for a powerful and professional lens. Can you recommend one?
ОтветитьGreat video thank you Roy. I changed my set button to ISO and it's much easier to use than the tiny button on top of the camera!
ОтветитьHello Roy, thank you for taking the time to explain a bit more on the 5D Mk Iv, I really love the camera. You mentioned the liveview screen as an EVF with a snap on eye piece. I see a number of them online that do not look exactly like yours. Would you kindly share the Make and Model of yours? Thank you again and an excellent video!! John Casey
ОтветитьI was gifted this camera and as I am going over the settings along with you, my camera doesn't seem to have the same. Did they update the models, perhaps? I take great photos but this upgrade has me so bummed out. I guess I don't know my settings as well as I need to. I got away with using my Rebel for years, even with a giant zoom for the sports pics I take, but now I feel I am driving a lamborghini with the knowledge of a station wagon. 😜 Trying to learn all that I can.
ОтветитьThank you for this video! Would you say everything you went over would apply for day or night shooting while on a safari in South Africa? Thanks a lot!
ОтветитьThe best summary of Canon EOS settings that I have seen. Excellent work - I look forward to watching your other videos
Ответить5d mrk iv live veiw af not working when back button focus enabled in still photography. What is the solution?
ОтветитьZacuto Z-finder? face-palm Wish I'd thought of that years ago, especially as I bought the 5d4 for a trip to Antarctica where I had a very small weight limit for luggage and wanted a single body for stills and 4k video.
Straps. I shifted to Peak Design straps. They have these dongje things which attach to the camera and the strap snaps into those. They're sold, haven't failed me once in four years, but become useful for 1) shifting a strap between bodies 2) since I shift between video and photo, helpful for getting the strap out of the way if I've gone to a video fluid-head tripod, so I never have to worry about the strap snagging. It goes right into the modified gas mask pouch strapped to my leg with my alternate lenses for the day.
Gas mask pouch - yeah, picked one up at an army surplus store. Cut down one of those cardboard things from a grocery store for carrying 6-packs of wine bottles. Works surprisingly well. I can carry one or two lenses, a couple of spare batteries, a couple of small desiccant packs and microfiber, right where I can reach them on my thigh. Even has enough room to line it with some sherpa fleece. I started this on the aforementioned Antarctica trip. When you get to land in a location for only an hour carrying things in a backpack becomes an issue. Stopping, pulling the bag off, setting it down (on ice/snow), unzip, fish around, etc... Too slow! It's come in handy on other international trips when with a tour group, and, again, we might only be somewhere for 15-20 minutes before it's off to the next location!
C1-3 settings. I like to shoot HDR, so my C1 is my HDR mode - 5 shot bracket, 2-stops between with base shutter speed at 1/1000. From there, typically adjusting exposure via aperture and ISO. (If handheld or monopod). I can slow shutter speed if on a tripod.
C2 and C3 are configured for video. C2 is my 4k, 24p video with shutter at 1/50. For film/video you typically want your shutter at twice the frame rate.
C3 is for 1080p/60p. This is in case I want to shoot for slow motion.
My other big takeaway from this video is I really do need to remap some of my buttons. There are some controls that aren't quite where I want them, and I just haven't thought about remapping. This does mean I'll also have to set up my C1-C3 again... But that doesn't really take long.
Thanks for the video. Sorry for the long post. Didn't intend to go so in depth.
Do yo shoot with the "monochrome" setting in the camera?
ОтветитьThinking of buying this over the R5.
ОтветитьHey Roy, just learned there's an extended iso settings (H1, H2) Any advice with using them? I still only have access to 32000 after applying.
ОтветитьI use C1 as my "just get the photo" settings.
It has 1/500th sec, auto ISO and continuous focus assigned. If something unexpected happens I know it gives me a good chance of getting a sharp photo of it. If I remember, I try to leave my camera in C1 when I put it in my bag.
I love the AF tips. Great video, lots of information. Really appreciate it!
ОтветитьExcellent video, thanks! Just upgraded from MkII to IV and you help sort out the new operations. One question: How do you get the DOF preview to show the focus change without the image in Live View getting dark at f22? Thanks
ОтветитьMany thanks Roy, Great video! I've had my 5d for 5 years now and I must say I've learnt a lot of extra bits today, courtesy of your video. Thanks again!
Ответитьi love knaye
ОтветитьThanks for the video. I have learn more from you in the month that I have subscribed to your channel than the 5 years i have been subscribed to Peter MacKinnon's channel. Your videos are thorough and technical. For an amateur like me that wants to learn all about photography, this channel just fits well.
Thanks again
Thanks for the video Mate…. Ive had my 5D MKiV since 2018 and I love how much of a tank it is - Ive gone to buy a R5 a few times but for my style of shooting it isnt really justified at the moment!
One thing I will add to your video or have a different opinion about is that of the camera straps - I used the Canon supplied for a few months when I was touring, and I discovered that it just hurt and doesn't feel secure when just over my shoulder. I opted for a Peak Design Slide strap & haven't looked back - the quick-release system is excellent for attaching, and once the strap is on, it's comfortable to wear all day, and I always have the canon battery grip attached, so a bit more heft! I can reccomend!
Hi Roy. Thank you so much. What flash trigger are you using on the hotshoe in the beginning of the video?
ОтветитьThank you for that Roy, do you know if there is a histogram live on screen option instead of viewing it after
ОтветитьThis camera body might be old but I like the camera and I'm going to buy me a full frame camera and it will be the Canon 5d mark 4 cause it takes wonderful pictures and you can't beat that. And with all the new cameras out I will get it at a cheap price hopefully one that's in mint condition and not something someone trying to get rid off
ОтветитьGood Job. Thanks
ОтветитьHow much should I pay for this camera in 2022
ОтветитьIs that the way you store your lenses? Don’t you get problems with fungi and humidity?
ОтветитьI’ve just got my 5D iv yesterday. Can’t wait to test it.Thanks for sharing👍
ОтветитьVery helpfull video, i learned a lot in this video and i will keep follow you for good experience!! Thanks Roy
ОтветитьThanks for the good info Roy. Please tell me specifically, what is the Complete Model Name & Number is for the Z-Finder Zacuto, that your using. I might just buy one, for my 5DM4. Again thanks, for all the good advise.
ОтветитьHey Roy, I have set my canon 5d mark iv to factory setting twice, my shutter is set to 1/8000 in menu yet it still wont shoot no faster than 1/125 can you tell me how i can fit it so that i can sett the shutter speed to my desire? or what am i doing wrong. Thanks
ОтветитьCan u plz tell wt would be the best setting for larger group photos example: students batch photos. Ur reply will be highly appreciated 👍👍
Ответитьnice exactly what I need. Im sitting waiting for my brand new 5D mk IV from UPS as I watch and comment.
ОтветитьThank you. This was helpful
ОтветитьI have been flicking between C1 & C2 then found that the camera has reverted back to the original settings, is this normal???
Ответитьthank you!
ОтветитьHow is the battery life shooting 4k Video? I'm debating using mkIV for a 3 hour concert. Any advice?
ОтветитьDidn’t see anything here about Picture Styles or how to edit/instal new ones on the canon 5d. Is this even possible? If so, how?
ОтветитьGreat video thank you so much we really appreciate
ОтветитьExtremely informative and helpful video, thank you! Just out of curiosity, do you already have or are you considering getting one of newer R mirrorless cameras and if so, which one would be your top pick?
ОтветитьHey Roy,
Thank you so much for your amazing setting. They are helping me out a lot. Appreciate you taking the time to out this video together.
Great video. I wanted to make a comment on how much of a brave man you are by putting your camera face down on the glass. When I see people do this, it gives me the heebee jeebees. Great channel!
