wooden combination lock

I love the mechanism that retracts the bolt without even having to move a lever after dialing the combination.All you need to do is:
-Turn the dial clockwise 4 revolution,and then stop on the first digit.
-Turn the dial two times counterclockwise and stop at the second digit.
-Turn the dial one full turn and stop at the third digit.
-Turn the dial clockwise until it stuck to retract the bolt.

So, with a steady hand and some patience you can crack these locks without the combination.

Hi. I am new to your channel and new to laser engraving/cutting though I have already created some nice and simple "safe" boxes for my grandchildren. As to combination locks, I prefer your design over many others that I have seen on the net. Your answer to 5ivestring 8 years ago added to my understanding of your design and maybe I'll be able to build one myself. There is this aspect that I can not figure out: What prevents the combination wheels from turning backwards? I mean, after a dial-turn was made, there follows a turn to the other direction in order to bring the next wheel to the "unlock" position (if I understood correctly) . As the 3 wheels turn on the same smooth allu tube, what keeps the first dialed wheel from losing its position when the front dial is turned in the other direction to bring the second wheel to the "unlock" position? Are there, for instance, any brushes that touch the wheels to prevent a counter move? I'd really value your answer very much.
