Best video! Thank you! 🫶🏻🩷⭐️📸New Canon R3 owner👏🏻 I’m learning about photography to how to photograph my son and his football team in August 2024. Learning to photograph action on the field and also develop really dramatic, edited individual portrait type images, are my goals. I’m watching all of your videos. Thank you from a football mom hoping to make some good memories for my son and team. Upon purchasing my new camera, I was advised to try Canon’s RF 24-105 mm f/4 L IS USM lens and Canon’s RF 100-400 mm F5.7-8 IS USM. I really hope to be back here in a few months with an update of how it’s all going. My son has high expectations and I don’t want to let him down. Thank you 🫶🏻👏🏻🎀

I appreciate your series very much! I often have to stop the program and take notes, but that's just fine. One question: Is there a technical reason related to lighting that you have what appears to be a bare bulb hanging down by the back corner, appearing just to the side of your ear? Are you using that to trigger some kind of response in your camera? Or...?

I'm planning to buy a canon r50, and I plan to get an adapter for EF lenses, can you recommend me a good ef/efs zoom lens(around 300mm for beginner, I also plan to use for astrophotography) for canon r50, Thank you!

I thought canon mirrorless RF-mount cameras DO let you use RF-S crop lenses on the full frame cameras (with the same issue as you mentioned, of course), but physically, they fit now I though

Simon, if we had to pay for your content you would be the best bargain in photography. In every presentation you cover what others do in multiple. Your brain seems to be operating like a super fast lens. I’ve recently started watching you at .75 speed which helps me better absorb the detailed technical stuff. Keep up the good work and thank you.

Thank you so much for all your HELPFUL videos. I recently finished taking my photography classes where I have a clear understanding.
I’ve watched & subscribe to your channel. Thanks for this video I have a canon rebel t7 that came with two lens. I’m pretty comfortable with the smaller lens 18-55mm but the larger lens not so much. Thank you for the examples this helps.
Happy Anniversary & God Bless you!

Hi Simon, I was interested in the part about speed boosters. I had never heard of this. So I'm wondering if anyone makes a speed booster for Canon EF lens to EF mount on an APSC camera? I did a quick search and I couldn't find one. Maybe there is a technical reason why that won't work.

I got my first ever Camera recently, ultra happy as I always wanted to go into photography.
It came with the kit lens, and after some time now i become more frustrated with it aince I cant take pictures I would like.
Always wanted to shoot wildlife, but with all the lenses being price, guess can forget about it.
Btw love You channel, thank You for sharing Your knowledge, it really helped 😁

so, another stupid ?: is there a way to figure the 'max' focusing distance of a lens? i mean, the distance beyond which 'everything is in focus'? like my 18-300mm has 4m as the last mark before 'infinity'. Do I understand it correctly that if my subject is farther than 4m then it's considered to be 'infinitely far' and then everything which is 4+m in the picture will be in sharp focus no matter what the aperture is?
i'm asking because i was thinking to get a prime 20mm but then noticed somebody saying 'everything in focus'. what would be the 'max' focusing distance of the lens so that i can have the background blur with it?
because i'm thinking that i might be better off with a different zoom lens instead of this prime.

Great knowledge provided as usual. I have however had issues with lens adapters and speed adapters. Going from a third party lens with mount for Canon to Sony it just didn’t work properly.

Could you talk about native lenses versus 1/3 party as the camera manufacturer may limit some of the camera features to only their own cameras. Also, I think that reverse engineering by 1/3 party manufacturers may not be quite as good as the engineering of the native lens.

Looking forward to a segment on filters. As a beginner everyone seems to suggest to me to always keep a UV filter on the lens to protect against damage. I am always extremely careful with the lens and wondering if the filter will degrade or change the image quality?

While we're on the topic of vintage lenses... recently came into posession of two Soviet Helios lenses. One of which was from a run of production that allows for easy modifications to the front element. Namely reversing the front lens. Yes, there is some loss of sharpnes, but the payoff... The payoff is some absolutely sick bokeh. The Helios in its stock configuration already offers the "twist" to the bokeh, but reversing the front lens element makes this twist even more extreme. Great piece of kit. If you want some crazy bokeh and don't mind the manual focusing - definitely worth looking into. A few caveats though. The quality of each lens is highly dependent on what day of the week it was when it was made, how close to end of shift it was, and how much vodka has been imbibed by the factory worker assembling it. Yeah, it's a lottery. But at the price point - worth the risk. :)
Thanks for another great video!
