The only thing worth fighting for is freedom. Anything else is a waste of life and effort. Anyone who is alive now and free owes everything they have to those brave men and women of the Armed forces who fought and died for thier freedom and for all those to come.

Spare a moment, and a thought, to remember these bones and crosses.
For their names are too many.
Be sure, these fallen Soldiers do not ask for your tears.
But pause and take a deep breath with respect, remember the stake, these souls placed upon the alter of freedom.
With a sad smile, bow your head, knowing you are free, because of their great courage and sacrafice.
Look upon these thousands of white crosses and see the cost of Duty and Freedom
For in their death they never knew Victory.
Even though the blood spilt on the land and beaches has washed away
The deeds of these soldiers will always be Remembered.

( To the fallen with respect and gratitude )🙏

The fact that he would take full responsibility in case Overload failed, says everything about Ike you need to know!

Eisenhower was a very wise man, a very able commander, but I believe he's wrong about Rommel's presence, had he been in Normandy when the Allies landed not making a difference. Rommel was a truly talented commander and one who could almost read the intentions of his enemy. Whether we would have been able to bring forward armor in sufficient strength to halt the invasion on the beaches is questionable, but he certainly would have made things a lot worse for the Allies if he had been there.

How sad it is that so many of today’s elected leaders have chose to ignore the importance of this victory, the agreements made between countries, and why it was so important to stop tyranny. This is the exact reason for stopping Putin from his invasion into Ukraine. MAGA republicans are telling Americans that the soldiers that died are meaningless.

And now, having bled to death on those beaches to free the European continent the fools that run the EU have handed the whole bloody thing over to the Muslim hoard, mindlessness, foolishness to the fourth magnitude, and without the shedding of blood, in the millions of gallons, Europe will never again be free and civilized. AND THAT IS THE FACT OF THE MATTER.

This is what news and interviews used to be like. The further we get from the WWII generation the further we get from the truth. My dad was a vet from that war and he was just a guy who did his duty. He NEVER bragged and he hated war in all its forms.

I remember when this showed on the TV. I was not quite 6 years old. This is when I learned that my Dad was involved in the Normandy Invasion and, as just about all little boys will do, I had quite a few questions. My Dad, usually fairly easy-going, used language that I had not heard from him - he told me to "Shut Up" (usually, it was "Hush") and not pester him. I knew Dad was in the Navy during WWII but he would rarely talk about the War. It wasn't until just before his death (Aug, 2004) that those questions from that little boy were answered. Even after 60 years, Dad would choke-up as he told me what he went through..... His ship (USS FOSS - DE-59) was on Pickett Duty off Omaha Beach and that Dad could hear the Artillery, Machine Guns/Rifles of the Germans.... and the screams/cries of the Soldiers being hit.... and to hear them crying out for their Mamas....
Dad never wanted to ever visit Normandy. The memories were still too strong....

(paragraph about the need for absolute unity) "This plan is likely to add another 3 to 6 months on to the war!" "In writing thus, the General was but reflecting the views of Eisenhower, in due course to be chief of the invasion forces. On assuming command of the North African expedition, that great leader had from the first preached the doctrine of intimate and continuous co-operation between all Allied fighting men, and saw to it that, at least among his own staff, it was practised with conviction and success. At all times, and especially at moments of crisis, the whole weight of his influence was thrown on the side of unity, and it was decisive. This was not the least of the services he rendered to the Allied cause." page 81

This man is a role model of mine. We need a leader and president like this on our national once again. He was a conservative Republican and left FDR-like policies and even send the military to walk the Little Rock students in Arkansas to class because he realized they just wanted an education. The man was righteous. The man was as American as it gets.

Such a hands-on description of the invasion by a former president. Notice that at around the 12-minute mark when he was asked what he was doing in the hours after the final go-ahead decision was made- he didn’t mention prayer. Those were the days before all public officials had to be open with their piety. Also, at the end when he expressed hope that this would be the final time troops would have to cross the Atlantic, I was a bit surprised that Korea didn’t come up, even though it was a different part of the world.
