I mean i love mine, i wanted one for 10 years before i got one, ive now had it 10 years and im terrified to drive it, parts are so spendy its not worth the risk of someone in a pedestrian ass honda insight to busy paying more attention to tictok than the road hitting me, would i buy one again? Not in this economy but is it a choice i regret? Not necessarily yet 😅

Actually we have two and they're a royal pain in the butt.

Parts are rare and sometimes unavailable at any price. Like headlight relays and now transmission parts.
It's like a loyal suffering group therapy session.

They're not that fast now that everyone has lot's of power but they are light.
Incredibly light and fragile like origami.

No side impact crush protection,airbags, antilock brakes, traction control, torque vectoring, GPS, backup cameras or cupholders.
The headlights, HVAC,wipers heck everything is old.

Somehow it is integrally a beast at heart and will give it's all if asked in an instant.
Then back off like Superman slipping back into the mild mannered reporter.

Few cars can do both.

as a car no its not worth its price but as statment a node to the legend and the culture it kicks off as a car that represent the very foundation of affordable sports car yes it is worth its price a ae86 will turn more head then a ferrari in a car meet.

My parents bought one off the lot, first owners, and still the only owner's, I'm hoping to to one day get it after I get it to run again. Theirs has been sitting after we out grew it as a family.

Sr5’s are going pretty cheap but the conditions aren’t worth the price, bought mine for $4,800 but needs a fair amount of work and a lot of part swaps and an engine swap (eventually) came with the wrong engine a 3tc (they are supposed to come with a R22) but the engine people want is the 4age (comes in the gts or gtv) or better and if you want something like that, damn $12,000-$20,000 depending on the condition maybe lower if your lucky. Also if your trying to go cheap good luck getting a hatch, coupes with the trunk are way more common but you have parts you don’t want, like the drums in the back and separate springs and shocks in the back. There’s alot to do on the cheap ones. If your lazy drop 20k+

The Levin in the first season happened to be an AE85 but soon in the story they also introduce a Levin 86.

It'd be a shame if a cheap "86" wasn't £10,000 lmao, cheap fun and low power, you'd be insane to go for an 86 for the reason people praise it for for the price anyway, it's purely just a collectors car now, i hate how all the fanboying gives young people the wrong idea, I've had students of mine tell me its their dream car, and when I ask why they usually excitedly explain how fast it is or how it trains you to be a great driver.. It's not some supercar with amazing handling, its not a magic drift car, it's a high trim level of a corolla from around 40 years ago. I'd honestly say a GD1 Jazz or EP Civic hatch or if you want a direct comparison an altezza/lexus is200 would be the modern equivalent of an ae86, cheap, slow, not respected, but have a great aftermarket and the potential for a ton of fun in amateur motorsports. IS200s are already starting to go up because people are realising how underappreciated they are. And although I doubt GD1s or EPs are gonna go up suddenly, their prices are either keeping or rising too if you can find a good example.
