20+ Windows features you didn’t know about

If I knew these tricks to make Windows less garbage, I'd have tried to stick with it longer. Now the ship has sailed though. Fedora for the win.

Process Explorer is so good, I wish it were available on Linux. I'd try to build something like it myself, but I feel like it would be too much work to implement all the advanced features. Glad the Settings pages hiding thing is still supported in Windows, I have a small utility I made a few years back before even having 10 installed on my desktop that would let users change that Registry key with a list of pages that I either copied or figured out myself, and I figured 11 would drop support for it due to a different Settings app, but this confirms it still has some life left and that I should think about finishing the next planned update.

It's just there's girl that shows tips on firesticks and things and she showing how to for free be able to share passwords from netflix she says you just need windows 11 and then the free nord vpn I had to stop using my daughters password and vuy my own netflix which can't really afford as I'm disabled and have the strangest problem that grown man couldn't live with so I'm housebound for 3 yrs and the hospital won't beleive me or do anything. By dog was diagnosed with diabetes 5 month ago I was quoted 100 but no more than 1500 for whole year he went through his curve and it already it's been over 4000 and then there's tablets hes on.

So you'll learn to use the Windows command line but not the shell/terminal in Linux? lol 😛 Also, the poorly named "Windows Subsystem for Linux" is not an actual Linux experience. It's Microsoft's hatchet-job attempt to make users "think" they are trying out Linux so they won't actually switch to it. It can do some Linux stuff but it's purposely handicapped to make Linux seem like a lesser alternative. It's a slightly different tactic from how they are trying to make Windows seem and act like Linux. They did the same thing back in the DOS days trying to make DOS LOOK like their unix-like Xenix, and they did that just as badly lol.

Many these are just features they have stolen directly from Linux but made them annoying, GUI heavy, slow and terrible and god awful to use. I feel sorry for anyone who works with Windows professionally like system administrators who actually have to use this garbage. Windows is junk that is torture for any power user to use, meanwhile on Linux every feature is powerful but simple to use and all documentation you might need is standardized and already installed and is easily acceptable, no need to watch a video like this where no person can possibly remember everything because everything is a damn mess and implemented in a way that is different for every single program and half of these "features" is a god damn undocumented hack.

Replacing Windows search with PowerToys Run: Set keyboard shortcut to the Windows+Space, then map Windows+Space to the Windows key only in the keyboard shortcuts PowerToy. This way, pressing Windows key will pop up PowerToys Run by interpreting the Windows key for Windows+Space. It's not a full replacement since some stuff it just can't find, but then you can still click on the start menu icon and search for it that way.

When I was 11, me and my friends would go to the library every day to play runescape and stuff. One day I was feeling particularly evil so I made a bat file to shutdown a bunch of library computers at the same time after about 5 mins. Ran it as a background service so the next person who went to use that computer would be "caught" and have no clue. So there I was, sitting in the lobby with my stopwatch feeling like an evil villain as the timer reaches 5 minutes. Suddenly everyones computers shut down, and I mean everyone, all 238 computers across multiple libraries in the city. People were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I felt bad obviously because of lost data / homework / just not a cool thing to do but it was exciting as heck. The good news was that I was banned from that library for literally 10 years lol.

The Ctrl+Shift+Enter for the run dialog also works in windows search. And one you might have not heard of is Win+Alt+S which is a better version of the print screen, and theres a setting to replace the print screen button

What I use when a window is stuck on an invisible screen (for some reason my KVM switch causes this), hold Win key and spam the arrow keys. If you can see both screens, you'll understand how it works

As someone in security, Linus recommending millions of people to allow Task Scheduler to Run with highest privileges and disable killing the process if it lingers too long sends shivers down my spine.

That Linux subsystem add-on and being able to browse Linux drives is so so so handy, I wish I knew that was there sooner.

PowerRename is a godsend when you batch export a bunch of files, find you missed a backslash in the path, and now all of your image.tif that should be in Folder are now Folderimage.tif

It's so funny to me that the Windows team decided to go the WSL route, yet the OS itself doesn't support many common Linux file systems that are simply superior to NTFS nowadays. Like come on Microsoft. NTFS is slow, inefficient, and has problems with file fragmentation. All problems that EXT4 doesn't have, and EXT4 is open source.
