I have a little quibble: Parasite is one of the best pictures ever made. I cannot honestly believe that a better film is even possible. And it had to be that friggin good to get the same recognition as the Towering friggin Inferno? His homages to Hollywood silllyboys is just a fan's folly, and the sweet words of a modest man. But no impartial viewer can imagine that whoever made Wolf of Walll Street, or whatever idiot made Inglorious Bastards, had anything to teach this guy.

Easily one of the most overrated films of the last 25 years. Absolutely nothing good about this film whatsoever.

What's really fascinating is the fact that the themes depicted in the film seem to be reflected in real life. It may seem like PARASITE seemed to have hijacked the Oscars just like the Kim family. The irony of taking 4 Oscars representing the 4 family members. The movies address growing class tensions in modern society which I believe in something that also happens in the film industry. The idea that any foreign film are marginalized to the bottom with one award nomination. You begin to see how the Oscars are also a "parasite" that reap and lives off the labour of foreign films. They are fully aware on the impact the award show has on films, so they expect to receive numerous film applications which in return gives them a massive viewership on the award night. The Oscars' ignorance is fully shown when they don't bother to involve the cast or crew in any award nominations.

The Park family displays their physical aversion to the smell of the Kim family. A big symbol on Oscars' strong distaste for foreign language in cinema. It is very clear that the Oscars want nothing to do with anything foreign and fully draw a line on their sophisticated world and don't want anyone crossing it. It's very clear they fear being exposed of their privilege which is something that is finally coming to light.

It's a good movie. Only a good movie.

It deserved win Original Screenplay, and maybe Best International Film, although "Pain and Glory" deserved more.

"The Irishman" deserved the Oscar much more. Even "1917". The only good thing about it is that IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!

Yes, it does matter that Parasite has, we hope, broadened what good art is. It is really a beautifully dark and sorrowful work. People should feel uneasy and upset and ready to storm the castle. ('Twould be nice if this film fomented world-wide revolution...) But, honestly, does anyone who's watched this film (several times) really need to have this film (and all of Bong's films) recognized by an industry that monetizes art? It's sort of sad that we cheer as we watch tuxedo- and evening-gown clad beautiful people cheer for the "winner." The idea that we award art---as though it's a sport or as though the world is comprised of people who need to have their work recognized and rewarded with a little statue---is revolting.

“When I was young and starting in cinema there was a saying that I carved deep into my heart which is, 'The most personal is the most creative'”.

And when Bong Joon-ho said “That quote was from our great Martin Scorsese.”, I could not hold my tears. The moment was so emotional esp when people gave him a standing ovation. I mean Scorsese is truly one of the best and well-respected directors/storytellers out there. And to know that someone as good as Bong Joon-ho acknowledged that was so beautiful. ❤️

I was always under the impression that the BEST movie was selected. That is was the result or the performance that mattered. Nowadays we live under the childish idea that "equal outcome" is a thing (it's not) and we should "correct" the statistics by counting victim points in order to decide who's the winner.

Me, as a movie fan, find that a less interesting contest. So I'm very much in doubt whether "Parasite" won because it scored so many victim points or whether it was actually the BEST movie produced that year. Because of that doubt, this Oscar doesn't matter that much to me.

Since it's not the first time in the 21st century Oscar winners disappoint, I won't be watching it. That's what happens when the appreciation of the arts turns into a "virtue signalling" party.

Parasite won best picture at the Oscars in early 2020. Now look at the current landscape, South Korean film and drama are getting so much recognition recently and it's all thanks to Bong Joon Ho making a great film and showing the international audience that you don't need to be afraid and just enjoy films in different languages with subtitles. For non-english speaking audiences around the world, it was always so normal to watch foreign films in subs but now with the pandemic and OTT platforms on the rise, this is a great opportunity for other international big players to shine in the international market. Hope great films and dramas from other countries get great recognition too!

Fun fact : South Korean moviegoers & critics alike all thought the Handmaiden from Park Chanwook would definitely get enlisted as Korea's entry for Best foreign language film for the Oscars easily, but the Korean Film Council instead chose a different film to be enlisted, only to be dropped out from the 1st round of selections. (The film enlisted was The Age of Shadows, starring Parasite's very own Song Kang-Ho)

This was mostly due to the fact that the government then was very conservative and therefore somehow influenced their judging. Plus, the film was pro-LGBT and Park's progressive views didn't really sit well with the people at the top.

It did won Best Film Not in the English Language at the BAFTAs tho, becoming the first ever Korean film to be nominated & winning the category, so it would've been Korea's first win in the Oscars too, had it be submitted to the Oscars.

aren't the oscars usa's national award? i just think it's obvious that american movies win. every country has its own awards and their objective is to celebrate their domestic industry but, don't know why, oscars are treated differently. oscars are not like cannes, tiff or berlinale, just my opinion

If a film is GREAT, like Parasite, no one should give a crap where it is made!! Too bad ignorant people like Donald Trump can't appreciate quality entertainment when they see it. Oh yeah, our former racist, despicable excuse for a "president" didn't even see the film to make a sound judgment. Then again, sound judgments and Trump are polar opposites of one another.

I agree with u and not to take anything away from parasite, let’s not give the academy too much credit; the academy was “awaken” in contrast to past wrongs to save their own lives- this was partly due to Oscar’s lost in it’s relevance. They are a self centered group driven to congratulate themselves. Look what followed- their handling of the Smith-Rock fiasco.

I am a south korean, and it is really odd to hear that south korean film gone through "suppression" because they weren't nominated for Oscar before the parasite. Sure it was great to see a korean film winning the award. However not having oscar nominees till 2019 doesn't mean that korean films didn't get the attention it deserved before then. As director Bong himself described Oscar as "local award".

Well, welcome everyone to an era were the quality of your product doesn't matter any more, but all the bullshit behind It, like inclusion, politics, "represenfashion", etc.
Those year where AT LEAST, two arguably better movies like "1917" or "Joker", but who the fuck cares about filmic quality when you have the previous "values" represented?
Thanks to that, now we have premium retarded level movies like "Everything, everywhere in your ass" winning best movie award with a moronic plot in It...
Welcome to an era of intellectual obscurantism and mediocrity, thanks to all the scumbags who made that possible, thanks...
