Testing the warm-up controller on the K-Jetronic and KA-Jetronic. Checking the control pressure on the warm-up regulator for the influencing variable on the flow divider. The warm-up regulator (WLR) of the K-Jetronic injection system, also known as the warm-up regulator or WUR, is a key component of the Bosch mechanical injection system, which was used in many vehicles of the 1970s and 1980s. Its main task is to regulate the system pressure of the K-Jetronic system depending on the engine temperature. Here are some key points on how the warm-up regulator works and what it means:
Mode of operation
Pressure regulation: The warm-up regulator influences the control pressure, which regulates the working pressure on the injection valves. When the engine is cold, the control pressure is lower, which results in a higher fuel quantity to produce a richer mixture required for a cold start.

Temperature dependency: The WLR contains a bimetallic element that bends when heated. This bimetallic element is heated by the engine temperature and an electric heater. As the temperature rises, the control pressure gradually increases, causing the fuel mixture to become leaner.

Components: The WLR consists of a diaphragm that is influenced by the control pressure on one side and the spring pressure influenced by the bimetal on the other. This mechanism enables the pressure to be adjusted in stages.

Significance and maintenance
Cold start behaviour: The warm-up regulator is crucial for the correct behaviour of the engine at cold start and during the warm-up phase. A faulty WLR can lead to starting problems, uneven engine running or excessive fuel consumption.

Diagnosis and repair: Common problems with the WLR include blockages caused by dirt or coking, mechanical damage or electrical problems with the heater. For diagnosis, the control pressure can be measured and the electrical function of the heater checked. In many cases the WLR can be cleaned or adjusted, sometimes a replacement is necessary
