I have an Anytone 578, not that model. Though they don't make very clear model demarcations.

Radio fan seemed to go to high every time you keyed up. Surprised it's not temp controlled.

Had one for a few years, brilliant radio. Consistent good audio reports. Easy to use once mobile. Does everything I need from a mobile uhf VHF radio, recommended. Only criticism is the AGC is a little slow on airband receive, some strong signals quickly overload the receiver and takes a second or so to sort itself out.

This would be my choice for a 70cm/2m manpack build. Would like to add GMRS transmit so I can use that license as well.

Why can’t the Anytone Geniuses make radio with a detachable face ??
It’s the only thing that keeps these radios from going viral.

Postal delivery problems.... you too? They want more money for employees. They are not government workers... they are "subsidized" by the federal government. Much better benefits than regular civil servants... but they want more

That is one of the "kinks" of the 578... inconvenient for the PL antenna connector if you need to change antennas.

I have the AT-D578uviii pro, the same radio w/o the airband RX. It's a fine radio. I don't care for the APRS setup on it, so I don't bother having the GPS antenna connected. I haven't updated the firmware/CPS in a while, but when I was setting the initial programming on it, it very much wanted to do digital APRS, which it seems nobody else does. I use it mostly for FM in my mobile. I do like the microphone. I use a shielded ethernet cable and couplers to extend the hand mic successfully. I wish the radio was better at bluetooth and APRS.

The reason why the buttons on the top of the hand mic didn't work is probably most likely that the lock switch is on. There is a slider on the right side of the hand mic. to get the lock off. if that doesn't work, it can be programmed in cps under optional settings. except that I think it has a bit too much self-generated noise on the rx analog. but other than that it's a very good radio de lb2ok

Great Anytone radio APE. I will be getting the 3 band HT one when taxes come back . I have the QT 60 version of AT 5555 N II . same radio. It is great 60 watt radio. Nice RG 400 coax ! I use the ABR 400T stuff . Assume coax made in Texas ! . Chuck just took a special order for some ABR 400T coax on FT 240-31 with some odd ends . Told me no problem. We have in stock and ship out all done in a few days and got discount ! I called Any tones on the air and it took off . Worked a pile up ! Battery and wire in the air ! nice when 10/11/12 meter open ! 73

The extra fuse on the ground lead might seem unnecessary and generally speaking it is, but it's there to protect against rare ground fault scenarios. If a bigger ground point fails in the vehicle, the current will look for a different path. It's extremely unlikely but sometimes radios do get fried by ground faults!

Fuses:
It might seem daft to fit a fuse to the negative side of the cable, and if the radio is going on your bench you might be right.
However - If you're fitting a radio in a vehicle, and you run the negative cable directly to the battery like most manufacturers recommend, you can end up in deep water if things go wrong. Imagine a world where your antenna mount is an NMO / Panorama M8 which has the screen of the coax connected to the panel that you drilled through to mount it. This is done so that the panel becomes the groundplane for the antenna.
Now imagine that the large manufacturer fitted cable which goes from your battery to the chassis comes adrift / goes rotten. Your vehicle isn't going to start because it doesn't have a negative connection to the battery right? WRONG! It has a connection from the battery through your radio negative cable, through the radio chassis, through your coax and up to the panel you put your antenna mount on. In this circumstance, your coax and radio negative cable would have to carry a couple of hundred ampres!

Desk queen - Don't worry.
Vehicle install, fit the negative fuse!

I am unable to find the download for the AT-578UVIII Plus on the Anytone website. All I see AT-578UVPlus and AT-578UV Pro.
I don't want to download the wrong one that does not match the model of the AT-578UVIII Plus.

I just want to download it and take a look around and see what is there to program the radio in terms of ease of entering the frequencies, Talkgroups/Contacts, and Zones, Scan Groups, Rcv Groups.
Tnx,
de Wb4ur.
