hello, is it possible to stay the manual focus in a "linear" way? thanks and sorry my english i'm italian :)
ОтветитьNope - Sigma lenses are cheap crap. Take my word for it -
ОтветитьNice video! It is an interesting little lens.
Ответить"Oh hey, it's this guy, I used to watch his Fuji vids all the time!" - my thought when I saw this recommended video. Good to see you again, Andrew. Always enjoyed your content and output. I ordered this 18-50mm f2.8 for my newly consolidated travel gear (27mm, 18mm f2 + X-E4) and glad to see you back. I think I stopped watching you when you announced a shift away from Fuji, but*, I myself now shoot Fuji *and Sony, so that was probably a little knee-jerk on my behalf at the time. Just re-subbed, watched your 'end of...' video and hope 2023 is significantly better!
ОтветитьI am ordering this lens through your link Andrew and hope you are falling on your feet with your personal situation
ОтветитьSuch a good video! I have a question for you though. Do you know if zooming in and out with this lens has the same exposure stepping issues as the 16-55 2.8? Would really be helpful for me!
ОтветитьSo, will you be selling some of your prime lenses now that you’ve had this for a while?
ОтветитьThis lens is the perfect match for the Fuji XS10 🎉🎉
ОтветитьNice to see you again. Watching several reviews and reading the posts of this video too, nobody wanna challenge this lens to the Flagship 16-55 f 2.8. I don´t know if this happens because sigma would be defeated or cause the Flagship would be defeated, costing around 1000 bucks more.
For me there's no discussion with 18-55 because the aperture is variable (worse in my opinion but not unusable) and 18-80 because is long range with aperture f4. It´s an all-around lens for travelling and leaving the rest at home.
Definitely, the missing aperture ring is a big issue for Fuji users.
This is so tempting but the lack of an aperture ring is a deal killer for me. The ring is what got me into the FujiFilm line, feels like my favorite all-time camera the FE2. The size and speed are great but the XF 16-80 with OIS gets the nod plus they are plenty to choose from 2nd hand.
ОтветитьYou can zoom in/out by using XF18-120 and XC 15-45 while recording, they works fine
ОтветитьGlad to see a new video from you. Your vids have been invaluable to me over the last year and I value your opinion.
It sounds like you're a little short of breath. I hope you're fine and in good health.
The Tamron 17-70 f2.8 is also a good standard zoom lens, I bought it about 4 months ago and I love it. I think the Sigma will probably have better overall build quality. But the Tamron has that lens stabilization, some weather sealing and longer reach that make it even better as a 'single lens setup'. It also costs $200 more than the Sigma. So you can pick your poison.
ОтветитьIt's the best value zoom for retail at $550 + tax, but fuji 18-55 and 16-80 can be had for 250-450 with no tax used.
ОтветитьThank you for this review! Does this lens have automatic in-camera lens corrections in a Fuji body?
Ответить『p』『r』『o』『m』『o』『s』『m』 😝
Ответитьreally? giving credit that fuji 18-55 is heavier than sigma 18-50? 285g vs 310g? go back to your bike channel ;)
ОтветитьThank you for mentioning close focus as few reviewer do. This Sigma, at 12.1cm (1:2.8) is almost as good as the stellar X100V (10cm and 1:1.8). Thanks to you, this lens is now on my list must have list (I value close focus). Also it's great to see you doing Fuji videos again!!
ОтветитьLove this! Appreciate you taking the time to review 😊
ОтветитьWork with new 40 mp xt5
ОтветитьI think the only parfocal zoom available for Fuji is the Fujinon MK 18-55 T2.9 cine lens, unfortunately.
ОтветитьI'm reallt excited to get this lens. I did my preorder day 1. I do have the Tamron 17-70mm but I consider that my video lens. First street and events I would like the smaller Sigma for that.
ОтветитьI think we glossed over the most important thing here. WHERE did you get that hoodie? lol
ОтветитьNo IBIS, no aperture ring, wrong zoom turning direction. I understand that Sigma is recycling an already proven design to use on Fuji bodys but like this it's not attractive for most users.
ОтветитьClose focus capabilities is one area which makes this interesting for me. However I am shooting across systems now due to variety of reasons. I am loving Nikon d700 which i got for cheap to make use of the Nikon lenses I got for my film cameras. I also love the Sony a7iv which primarily i got for the wonderful 200-600 which is best value birding setup. But I am now enjoying the power of that full frame sensor and the sony tech for general shooting also. Interestingly this has also made me appreciate areas where I enjoy using Fuji and I do have few great lenses i love in the system. Now I don’t feel the need to upgrade my XT2 as I now have a higher capability camera in A7iv so I can use XT2 for specific fun uses like with that 16mm f1.4 which is a dream combo. I was evaluating the 24-70 f2.8 standard zoom for Sony but I am prime shooter so thought of using my 18-55 for some days to understand the experience. But still somehow the zoom is not getting much use. I don’t use video and the zoom just brings in another decision point while composing
ОтветитьHello Andrew. I agree with others on here that it is really good to see you back. This is another excellent video and very useful. However, although I am sure I will get some negative comments, I would like to make a personal observation. I am a couple of months shy of being 75 years old and have been taking photographs since I was 10 years old. I started with a half-frame VP Twin and now own 65 cameras of all sorts including a lot of digital DSLR and mirrorless with my most recent purchase an X-T4. I feel that far too many people regard image stabilisation, whether in-body or in-lens, as an absolute 'must-have'. Why? We certainly never had it on film cameras 'back in the day' and while I agree it is a great thing to have, it is not essential. By using an, inconvenient, tripod the problem is overcome. By more creative setting choices of shutter speed etc, when hand-holding, the problem is lessened and by simply learning how to correctly hold and support your camera the chance of camera/image shake can be eliminated. In conclusion I would opine that the lack of IS should never be a deal breaker when an otherwise brilliant lens is being considered. Love this video and best wishes to you and Denae.
ОтветитьHow is the autofocus in video?
ОтветитьAmazing the Sigma decided to compete with Fujifilm on size, the one area where Fujifilm has never been challenged.
Ответитьthanks for the video! In terms of image quality, what do you think this lens compare to the 16-80 f4? Is there a noticeable improvement? Thanks Andrew.
ОтветитьI wind up shooting most of my lenses at 5.6, just because I want the best out of them. (Yes, I'm still pre-Topaz) Especially my vintage 135mm's (all 2.8) like the crazy sharp Celtic Minolta, that for 40 bucks on ebay, (find the right seller and copy) is the best present I gave myself last year, and the Tair and Pentacon 135's. So, if you think the Sigma has better center sharpness than my Fuji 16-50mm 3.5 (with OIS) at 5.6 then show me. Cause mine is as sharp in the center as my 16mm 1.4 at 5.6 with it's zoom set to 16mm. And of course the weight of the 16-50 is nonexistent, and is a very fast focuser on anything T2 or later. Oh. The price. Mine cost me $130.
ОтветитьHey Andrew, good to see you back! Missed your videos :) Talking about parfocal lenses, how about the new XF 18-120 PZ (power zoom)? It's supposed to be (reasonably) parfocal! I'm sure you won't like the minimum focus distance of 24", but it seems an interesting proposition for Fuji video nonetheless... Review?
ОтветитьAll Fuji red badge zooms are par focal unlike your 16-80mm fuji
ОтветитьHow about the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 which has IS and is cheaper than the Fuji 16-55 ?
ОтветитьI use X-E4 and X-E1 mainly with the small Fuji primes because I like the discipline of single focal length but also the light, low profile aesthetic but zooms are convenient on trips or some events.
But I got the XF 18-55 f2.8-4 for family travel convenience. It’s nice enough but f4 at the long end doesn’t give enough background separation especially when my other camera if full frame which gives much lower dof for similar apertures. F2.8 at 50mm would give me more creative options than f4 at 55mm.
However no OIS on my non IBIS cameras is a practical limitation too. On those family travel days you will be faced with low light situations and bumping the ISO to much on these X-Trans sensors isn’t an option as the image falls apart quickly.
So I’m torn as whether to sell my XF 18-55 and get this Sigma just to get f2.8 at the long end. :(
It would be great if Sigma made a competitive 10-24mm lens. Preferably smaller and lighter than the current fuji offering.
ОтветитьThe Sigma is more expensive than a 18-55 2.8-4.0 from a kit. And no one buys the 18-55 over kit price. The Sigma is bad in sharpness at 18mm at the edges even at higher apertures. Thats a no go. Look at the review from Christopher Frost. There is no aperture ring, no OIS. The 18-55 is cheap and compact. And sharp. Most of Fuji users have this brilliant kit lens. Why this Sigma 🤷♂️? Best zoom lens for your money is the XF 18-55 2.8-4.0.
ОтветитьWe missed you! Greetings from Brazil!
ОтветитьWhy no i-series design? Why no aperture ring?
ОтветитьI've pre ordered this lens and can't wait for it to arrive in December. Size, weight, F2.8 constant - it's a winner.
ОтветитьAwesome lens. Regarding the price, weight and aperture you can't go wrong with this one.
Ответитьtoday i got sigma 56mm f1.4 prime for xs10.. hope next lense will sigma 18-50mm
Ответитьbased on reviews from other folks,it seems its a great lense but if you already have the 18-55, its not really huge upgrade. but if you had to pick one to buy new, the sigma is great assuming you already have a fuji body with OIS
ОтветитьSigma please EF-M version. It is not going to happen😢 if you’re are in the fujifilm x system. It is pretty much the perfect APS-C zoom lens. at least I’m in my opinion.
ОтветитьThis is clearly an excellent and top value for money lens.
However, as I have owned and been very pleased with the Fuji 18-55 ( with IS) ,am simply not in the market for a lens which basically duplicates the same, more or less, focal lengths.
Whilst the Sigma may be lighter, I would never characrerise the Fuji lens as "heavy", far from it.
Damn I miss you posting on the channel. I just pre-ordered this lens today for my X-T4.
