Follow the Footsteps

Recorded on May 6, 2012 using a Flip Video camera. Original song by Marc Pevar. Harley Winer on flute, Susan Pevar vocals, Marc Pevar vocals and guitar. This song came complete in a dream on Saint Martin in Grand Case. I felt the chords, heard the words, melody and harmony and the finger-picking, truly a gift from G-d! After revisiting family in Israel in 2000 for the first time since honeymooning there in 1969, I struggled for several years to capture my feelings about the family connections, love for my wife Susan, awe at the physical development of Israel, the ingathering of Jews from all over the world, and the spirituality felt so strongly in the Old City of Jerusalem. After giving up trying to write such a song for at least six months, I awoke with this entire song fully formed, which captures these sentiments. The power and poetry of this song is beyond my abilities. We have sung it at funerals, birthday parties, anniversaries, all sorts of public and private musical settings. One lovely woman, who heard it while in hospice care a few days before passing remarked: "Why, that song is about life itself!" As described in Plato's dialogue "Ion," I feel that I was truly a conduit through which this song passed from a purer realm.
