I’m on headphones for most of the time with Waves NX.
ОтветитьOn point about those leafblowing sons of …😆
ОтветитьYou dont mix headphone with speaker monitors, but you do mix cardano with solana
ОтветитьLol Im the guy trying to mix symphonic blackened death metal with my spouse shouting on the other room lol
ОтветитьSo IEM>Headphones>Speakers>Earbuds ?
ОтветитьI fucking love this guy lol..he's got a great personality and just makes things fun along with giving amazing info. Just subbed!!!
ОтветитьHe’s been watching Andy Scheps again……..
ОтветитьNumber 6 - When your kinds are screaming and you need to get your shit done.
ОтветитьI use headphones a lot; and switch monitors in and out to check.
Most music is listened to on crappy earplugs, or car stereos.
This doesn't ring true, in the b roll of him wearing them he has them on the wrong way round. He says he's been using the x55s for years, if that were the case there is no way he'd put them on wrong, even just for b roll, habit would take care of that. Plus he says headphones are good because you don't get track bleed when recording, but the x65s are open backed so you definitely would (other reviewers have already commented on this). This whole video feels like a disingenuous ad.
ОтветитьWish I had just went ahead and purchased the 55s. I wanted to cheap out and get the 15s, didn't
realize they were on back order at GC and now I can't get in touch with anyone to get a refund. :'(
The only downside to headphones are Ear Fatigue and Ear Health. But it's the most transparent stereo-wise. So better used as final checking or key deciding moments.
ОтветитьLearning from DankPods that Austrian Audio is where all the AKG engineers went after they were bought out by Samsung says a lot. My first good pair of open back headphones were a set of K240's I got on sale. As an impulse buy to replace the headphones that came with my interface, it's been a godsend. Especially after moving out and having to leave a lot of gear behind, including my Kali LP8's. Thankfully I also have some DT770's to have a closed back set for tracking and other things, but bouncing between the two has been great for me being in a temporary space at the moment. Can't wait to have an actual studio again!
ОтветитьI'm trying to learn what I actually need to record my guitar and bass guitar. I have an unusual writing style. Its all guitar and bass, no vocals or drums. I've attempted reaper and a few others but couldn't find out how to get them to record my clean tones. All clean tones sounded like a shitty chorus pedel... all that watery, warblers bullshit. I'm guessing that it had something to do with latency. I'm using a positive grid amp for the tones and was using the USB out. If I get a cheap daw and mic the amp will I get a recording of the sound I'm creating?
ОтветитьHave a buddy who mixes from monitors to studio phones then to just about every headphone type of regular headphones to make sure the mix translates well to what (lets face it) everyone will be listening to the music to in the real world.
ОтветитьGleeennnnnn!nnn.nnn.!n. I wish I had started watching you before I purchased Mackie monitors. I gotta own it now, because I can't buy any new gear for a while. So why the hate on Mackie, just out of curiosity? They are better than my PC speakers.
ОтветитьI always mix on headphones, considering the fact that I can't afford to go into a studio, and there's covid to think about.
Ответитьi have absolutely no space in my room for the speakers i want, so I'm stuck with a certain pair of horrendously muddy 3" monitors.
it's unfortunate because the room is immensely well treated.
I mix on multiple sets of Headphones and IEMs for that reason, and because my target audience are primarily people who listen on earbuds anyway.
How about a review or a recommendation on studio headphones? (up to 200€ range) Guys? What are you using? *Quietly sips coffee
ОтветитьThis thing with the drummer banging just as you get your head close to adjust a mic or something in the kit! A common thing both in live and in the studio! Damn!
ОтветитьGlenn! What do think of plugins like the one that emulates the sound of Chris Lord Alge's studio and the like? Garbage? Gimmicky garbage? Or actually useful?
ОтветитьPiqued interest on the AA cans. Sorry couldn't use Sweetwater link as in Canada and went to StudioEconomik where they had them on sale. Score! I've been holding off on investing in better cans than my AT's which are really just good for tracking. Thanks!
ОтветитьIf you have a favorite set of headphones that you've been using to listen to music, use those as primary equipment. But take a break every now and then. You will notice if something is off. Also, have a few extra sets, earbuds, etc, because that's what most people use - everyone has a cell phone, mp3, Spotify, music on the move, I don't remember when is the last time I've seen a real stereo in a shop. Or a CD shop for that matter. But do have a stereo too. If it's not in a studio, even better, most people don't have a listening room and sound-proof walls. And car speakers, PC speakers, whatever you can get your hands on, check there too. And if you're in a band, send pre-mixes for everyone to check on their equipment. Also, try playing the music both loud and quiet, on all of these if possible. I've heard more than a few albums that amazed me on speakers but were almost un-listenable through headphones. Most metal mixes are a compromise anyway, there's no hi-fi here (or album sales, heh), just the best you could do with what you had. Turn on the radio and you'll hear better sound... But not better music.
ОтветитьFor small budgets, headphones are almost always better. A room that hasn't been acoustically treated will have a ton of color through monitors, where as a good pair of headphones won't have any (albeit worse stereo response and the works.) Combining headphones with a variety of other casual reference mediums is the way to go if you can't afford $300 monitors and a full-on acoustic room
ОтветитьI have to use headphones. My room is not acoustically treated. But I've adjusted my work flow in a way to where I know what adjustments need to be made by listening to my mix on different sources. I don't EQ anything until I've done that, and it also helps me pinpoint where my headphones are lying.
ОтветитьLook. The way I see it. There are 2 main ways people are gonna listen to music. With headphones or in the car. I'm not hear to debate about monitors vs headphones. I'm saying check headphones & car stereo before you hit send on your music
ОтветитьI always check my mixes on airpods. Because what are most people gonna be listening on?
Ответитьuse both for satisfaction results ♥️
ОтветитьMe only readed "Headphones...best option", so now Glennnnnn validateded it for me and make me best record producer engine
ОтветитьCan anyone tell me whether Hyper X cloud 2 headphones are good for mixing or its just the matter of "learning" the gear?
ОтветитьJust bought my set of Hi-X65 today! They’re truly amazing! A big factor to why I bought them was because a friend of mine works at austrian audio, and because I’m austrian, and they basically are produced half an hour away from my home..
But They’re also amazing headphones! My friend let me try them and convinced me! Never thought the open back desingn is so nice! I always hated tracking with headphones, bith guitar and vocals, but I’d say I prefer these over monitors actually!
I have a question is DT990 pro a good openback headphone??? For semi-professional mixing and mastering
Ответитьyes indeed - just make sure your 'phones don't over emphasize specific (cough cough BASS) frequencies,as some brands notoriously do...
ОтветитьStill using those CH products pedals from your old studio? I've got the same set in mine!
Ответитьsell out
ОтветитьI've commented this on a previous video, but unfortunately I cannot mix on monitors due to my situation at home. Also, you can't predict where someone is going to listen to a project you worked on so whether you mix on headphones or monitors, listening to your mix through several speaker systems alongside your reference track is crucial to cover all possible "listening experiences". In my case, I put a mix through a phone speaker, earbuds, TV speakers, Bluetooth speakers of two sizes and in my car. My latest mix sounds nice everywhere, but through a phone speaker the snare is almost as bass heavy as the kick. In the end, this is something I would've most likely noticed right away on monitors.
ОтветитьI use them for mixing my ambient music. Lots of detail work as Glenn mentioned.
ОтветитьI have no choice but to use headphones since I travel all the time, luckily, i've been using the same ones for 11 years now 😆
ОтветитьIf I'm not confident in my mix, I listen on studio speakers, studio headphones, basic-bitch headphones, and if possible listen on my phone speakers as well. Most people won't listen to your video/song on a professional setup, so you should make sure it sounds good on high end as well as low end hardware.
ОтветитьConsistency is THE KEY when it comes to headphones. I had to learn to mix on headphones a couple of years. One of the best tools I’ve learned. Speakers are more exciting though 🥳
ОтветитьI definitely check my mixes with different headphones I have, that way I kinda know how it will sound to other people if they were to listen to it. Also use them when I need to record with a mic.
ОтветитьBut, but, but, but, but I went and bought some Kali LP6's because you told me mixing with headphones is a horrible idea. 😱
ОтветитьGreat show with great tips ! Listening the reverb amount is often easier on the headphones than on speakers.
ОтветитьWhat was the brand of headphones he uses?
ОтветитьA friend of mine does a radio podcast on MixCloud. Virtual DJ recently did an update and he can't figure out how to use it now. Would a Focusrite Scarlett Studio solve his problem? Which one is the best? Thanks for the info!
ОтветитьI find listening to a track on headphones is important before finalizing anything. But I do prefer to play with reference studio speakers.
ОтветитьI've always mixed with Headphones.
Testing the recordings with my stereo systems and car helps in the finishing process, but I also don't own monitors.
Oh the joys of loving in an apartment...
