I honestly think Kanye was one of the first artists to pave the way for this change. Yeezus was his first lazy album cover, but ironically it did have meaning behind it. He said due to streaming his album cover represents the “open casket” for CDs. It’s actually genius, but after that I think artists started entertaining the idea of an album cover being pointless.
