0-100 nits? What dynamic range is that? That gives us infinite dynamic range. What about 0.01 - 100 nits? That gives us 10000 ratio or about 13 stops of DR. How did you get 6.8 stops for SDR? SDR of 10 stops in 10 bit ? How did you get that? Rec 709 specify 11 stops of DR. According to Dolby "The current TV and Blu-ray standards limit maximum brightness to 100 nits and minimum brightness to 0.117 nits". That gives you 891 contrast ratio (100/0.117) or almost 10 stops. This video creates more confusion.

I'd love to see a video made on Sony's HLG, and how to work with it.

I'm sorry for my bad English but if I understand, HDR (in video) does not only display colors but play with the brightness too, I mean, imagine a scene with the sun on it, all the white things are gonna be displayed in white but with not the same brightness, am I right ? (Like, the white on the floor will be less brighter than the white of the sun)

I have sony a6500 and MBP 2015 . If i record s-log footage, I should observe more dynamic range right? With the coming FCPX 10.4

Great video. This makes perfect sense. Now, I understand what all the hype is about. Thank you for this simple explanation.

Not meaning to nit-pick (pun intended) BUT I sure hope your FCPX updates for 10.4 only include the new features. Not only am I not all the way through the lastest 10.3 updates in your courses, but I simply cannot afford to buy them all agin this often. Here's hoping ...

Great! How does this HDR compare to say, what we see at the cinema, or good old fashioned 35mm film? I suspect they would be comparable, right?

Keep in mind that when looking at new monitors/displays, even if they are labeled as "HDR Ready" or "HDR Capable" you might find that they have the same brightness ability of a non-HDR monitor (ie: 350). How can they sell them as HDR if they don't have the nits?

Wondering what piece of music is used at the beginning an in the end. Heard it several times in different projects (videos & app background music). Any hints?
