Entry Level Swiss Watches | From $100-$1,000

I NEED YOUR HELP. I will be interviewing Alpha M tomorrow to address his absurd video "5 Ways MVMT Watches are BETTER Than ROLEX!". In the video, I want to ask him questions from our community here. Please leave comments with your questions.

You missed Mondaine, Mathey Tissot, Hanowa amd Wenger. They are all Swiss and make some good entry level Swiss watches.

Since my first INOX I just fall in love with the watch. I'm not tall at all and have a regular thin body shape and the watch fits perfect, it's bulky but very comfortable even the steel versions, also you can use it with a suit, casual or sport clothes and works very well. Now I have 6 of theses and the quality is outstanding, the automatic versions are a steal considering the details of dials. Also, what Victorinox have is its unique hexagonal bezel making it the only watch in the list with its own personality. Finally, I'm currently here in Switzerland and I'm shock how expensive are the carbon and automatic versions and also the Alpinas, in my country (Chile) the Certinas are more expensive but here is the opposite by far. For me, if you want to step up from Victorinox you have to think in Rado, Tudor or Omega.

What's your opinion on Roamer brand??

what do you think about the Certina DS8 Chronometer, it s my first watch and I paid it 350$ was it a good buy?

The problem you're at is the price variance in this category. The difference between a $500 and a $900 in our category is 900 is boatderline unattainable and 500-700 we are balling out of control on our dime. That's price variants is UNACCEPTABLE at our price range.

It is ironic that love can’t be bought. Though it can be improved upon.

What do you think about certina?

Victorinox, Tissot, Certina are ALL you need really. Will never spend more than $1,200 for any watch.

Long ago I had a Tissot watch, a low end model. It kept time, but I really didn't like it. It felt like a cheap Chinese watch and that's being kind. It was a huge step down from a department store Seiko, that's for sure.

Great comparison, some really great picks! Have owned the Ocean Star and Baroncelli pieces-very nice value for money.

Alpha M is full of shit.

Your lack of enthusiasms for these watches -- just the exhaustion in your voice -- brought a smile to my face. So I'll say this much in favor of them: it is through positive experiences with entry-level automatic watches that new horologists are brought into the fold. (P.S. I really wish more people would embrace Invicta...the company is exactly what the high-end watchmakers need, a starting point. Timex (bless 'em), by contrast, is an end point...you buy your Timex and wear it until one of you dies.)

Like, heavy heavy. It’s almost as if you cringe when you have to praise a watch with Arabic numerals.

Hey Teddy, what would you choose between the Certina DS Action Diver and the RADO Captain Cook which one would you recommend - similar movements, similar capabilities I am having a hard time :)?

Tissot and Mido chronometer, best bang on your bucks, nothing even close in comparison in the industry.

Love my Victorinox Maverick and Divemaster 500. I got these for great prices about 5-10 years ago and they have only gone up in value. Another thing I like is that this brand isn't expensive to get into a nice watch with a sapphire crystal. Even their lowest cost watch, the heritage, has a sapphire crystal. Can't go wrong.

I think you missed to review the Revue Thommen brand.

Not one mention of The Dirty Time Company, makers of the infamous Spiro Agnew watch. I still have mine with the original strap I got as a gift in 1969. It's my first Swiss watch lol.

I think that it is waste of money based on my experience. After using many for 10 years, I regret the purchase. I should have bought Apple Watch than I had wasted the money.
