Fill with Random in Illustrator aka Bubble Letters

I have done this effect in the past with the G'MIC filter 'Pack Sprites'. But its not vector.
G'MIC is available for Photoshop.

This is cool and I can see it being used in a lot of different brand applications. That said, is there a tutorial out there on how we might customize the script so to have more options for fill other than circle? Thanks so much for making and posting !
