Didn't like this review. Nice skills. Not a review I'll watch again.

Very nice review. They both sound very good on did.
I recently bought the Gibson J-45 Standard and it is really a guitar of another league and I just love it.
I could say that its not only the beauty of the guitar, it is not only the sound that is so rich, it is not only the perfect finish, it is all together and the way the guitar feels on our hands and how she resonates. I just fell in love with the guitar instantly. 😊

Great review. Thanks. Does the epiphone version come with electric pickups or an option to get them?

I recently purchased the Epiphone J45.
It is an exceptional guitar for the money. I wish I could go for the Gibson but I’m very happy with my purchase

The Epiphone sounds ok, but also definitely sounds like a cheap guitar.

Honestly, if you’re a brand snob and only cares what’s on the headstock, buy the Gibson. If you’re looking to buy on the actual sound of the guitar, buy the Epiphone. It sounds way better than the Gibson here.

No way the Gibson is 2000 dollars better than the Epiphone, Gibsons are overpriced and always have been, you pay for the name in my opinion...

Blueridge BG40 sounds better than the Epiphone and is a strong contender against the Gibson. The BG40 I have sounds good even when the strings finally go dead. If you run across a BG40 give it a try, you'll see what I mean.

I own a 2001 Gibson J-45 and have played J-45s from ever era include a real 42 banner. I also picked up one of these Inspired by Gibson Epiphone J-45s a few years ago... I know people don't want to admit it, but I don't care at this point, you can even hear it in these videos, the Epiphone just sounds better. Is it as bright as the modern Gibson J-45 Standard. No, but the historic J-45 and the best vintage ones aren't all that bright, they are "woody" sounding, they have that "Gibson thump". The Epiphone is delivering here more like a vintage Gibson J-45, and specially more like the very late 1950s J-45 which is what it's based on... Currently Gibson builds a homage model very similar, the "50s Original J-45" and if you compare it to the Epiphone they are honestly neck and neck. Real bone nut and saddle on the Epiphone vs synthetic bone on the modern Gibson J-45 and a few other changes. I do not consider the modern Gibson J-45 Standard to represent the peek of what a great J-45 should be. It's not horrible, but honestly I really like what Gibson has allowed Epiphone to do with this all solid wood import model, leagues better than anything in the USA built G series or even Studio series in my opinion. The J-45 Faded (~$2400) is your entry level for a real USA built J-45 (Spruce top on Mahagony back and sides).

Great! Nice evaluation. I've been looking at Epiphone's, of late. Am persuaded to try them out. The J-45 version and an SJ-200 version. Also, curious about an Epi Southern Jumbo variant, if there is one..

Playing the epiphone now at GC. loving it. Not bad at 749. I have a original Gibson J45 1954 at home to compare to.
Actually feels pretty close. Definitely not as bright but not as much depth either as the original. But not by that much. I am thinking about getting this one and putting the Gibson in the case for a while to preserve it a little longer. It's in great shape for the shape she's in so I want to keep her that way. Belonged to my dad and passed down to me. If you are looking at the epiphone I'd pull the trigger while they are available. You won't be disappointed. Haven't plugged it in yet but I'm sure it will be fine.

Personally I do prefer the Gibson, but monetary wise, I will buy the Epiphone. I can get that sound, feel and the sense of the Gibson history for one quarter of the price.
GREAT Comparison video and excellent playing!

Video suggestion: Can you do a video that compares all the Epiphone J-45 models that are currently available, including standard traditional one you showed in this video, the Slash (which is $200 off everywhere through December at the moment and comes with a hard shell case), the cutaway, the Studio, and the Aged Viper Blue that’s now available for pre-order.

My friend wants to buy a J-45 and is very conflicted about which J-45 is right for her because there are 5 choices that all seem to be the same at their core yet have extremely different specs and features. You’d probably help a ton of people by making a video that examines all the Epiphone J-45’s closely, side by side.

I think my friend will be happiest with the modern appointments and upgrades on the Slash model (especially now that the price has dropped by $200 through Dec 31 to the original launch price from several years ago before prices rose). My friend is worried about the thicker neck as compared to some of the other J-45’s and is wondering if she will miss having a cutaway and how the cutaway changes the tone. She’s also used to acoustic guitars with the Fishman Sonicore pickup. All of the acoustic electric J-45 Epiphones have a Fishman, but the Slash model seems to have an LR Baggs. I’m very curious why Slash would have pivoted away from the Fishman that’s been included with Gibson and Epi J-45’s for practically as long as these Fishmans have been available.

Anyway, I hope you’ll take me up on this suggestion. I’ve seen videos that compare two of the Epiphones side by side at the most. I’ve never found one that really examines each unique model — currently 5 by my count. That would be extremely interesting and helpful!

Thanks guys!

Overall I think that the Gibson sounded a little better, also I liked the fact it was lighter weight. In choosing one I would be very happy with the Epiphone

Gibson has upped its acoustic game with Epiphone in the last 5 years, but at $750 there is more value and build quality to be found with Yamaha acoustics in the same price range. Epi's sound dead by comparison in person, think Gibson J160's. If youre a touring musician and use the pickup, nobody will notice. If you plan to room mic an acoustic, the Gibson is an absolute must... or a Martin.🤷‍♂️

Epiphone have stepped up the game. I have previously tried many & never liked the sound or feel, so around that price point & just above. My daughter & I gravitated towards Faith. We gave a fair go to the low end Martins & Taylor's, but next time will certainly give the Epiphone J45 a go.

You played them differently and so I am guessing that they felt or sounded different to you in hand. The epi sounded brighter and it seems to have inspired you to work a bit to that strength. The Gibson sounded mellower and you didn't seem to be working as hard to play across the fingerboard. Or maybe I am imagining it...

One thing I've noticed with the Epiphones I don't like, is they leave the nut ends too square. Is the nut on this epi more square on the ends than the gibson?

I have both, only my Gibson is the 50’s 45. I couldn’t agree more about the Epiphone. It’s so well rounded and fun to play. The neck on my 50’s 45 is almost identical to the IBG 45. The main difference in these 2, I think, the IBG is built more along the same line as the Gibson Studio 45, with a bit less dim depth. I think Gibson made a great decision by specifying these for Epiphone. By the way, the IBG Hummingbird is killer, brother man 👍🏻
