Can you offer any more reasonably priced alternatives? A hoodie for over $100 is quite expensive. Thanks!

I have a couple of merino wool sweaters I bought at a local retailer, j. Crew. I love them! However, I can't imagine wearing them if it's not a bit chilly out.

I bring quick dry polyester/cotton blends. And I bring the light versions like golf clothes.
Of course I never travel in the winter or late fall, so I never travel with jeans or long pants.

Good video. Merino layers are the best way to travel, hike, sleep. I've even got a merino buff (but had to sew in a panel because it was just too small for any human head.)
An impulse buy in China from a bin in front of a store =$12 US merino wool blend sweater. It was to be a 'use it and leave it behind' after my Tiger Leaping Gorge hike I started the next day. Got it sweaty, muddy, tossed it in with my other stuff I took to the laundry. Didn't expect it to survive. They treated it right. For years I wore it to work. After 12 years I'm finally retiring it - holes. (The trick on why it was so good and durable was not just the merino but the spandex? stretchy blend. It's still the same shape it was the day I bought it.)
Merino is great. Tip: Usually you can wear merino, air it out and then wear it again and again. I've taken off sweaters thinking 'stinky' but by next week it's no longer stinky. That's wool. You can wash merino in the sink but if you hang it up to dry in the sun, come back and turn it inside out. Maybe do this a couple times. The same 'heat wicks the moisture away from your body,' is now wicking it towards the inside away from the sun warmed surface. It dries pretty quick if you do this, or it can stay a bit damp all day. Or you can just put it on, a little chilly but dries on your body very quickly. I've done this in the winter. I don't shiver for more than a few minutes.
I won't wear any synthetic except for fleece but not against my skin, and nylon in hot weather. All other synthetics stink and stay stinky. I've got a $250 Patagonia puffy jacket that is stink stink stinky. Terrible. Instead in a chill I reach for a $25 fleece zip up. I get 1.5 yards of fleece fabric fold it over and zig-zag stitch it (for stretch) to make a sleep sack. No hemming needed. I always travel with a sleep sack or sleeping bag liner. I usually use them at home in the cold months. Just cozy anywhere and everywhere.
Sleep mask tip. I've tried them all. They all leak light. I used to have migraines and I couldn't sleep in any light. For the past 20 years or so, black t-shirt (or a spare merino layer). Even on a plane I'll just drape the t over my head. Looks silly? I never know, I'm deep in my dreams.
If your feet are going to be wet and cold, merino wool (smart socks same thing) are good, but not as good as Seal Skinz socks. When I hiked in England in April (the MOD chopper came out a couple times a day and 'found me;' They weren't worried, it was just that the only things moving were me and the sheep. So I was practice. Cheers.) I started just wearing two layers of merino wool socks. Okay. But my feet took 45 minutes in my sleeping bag (with the liner of course) to warm up. When I started wearing Seal Skinz (the tall ones), my feet never had that cozy warm wool minute, but they were never ever cold. In my bag at night, my feet didn't need to warm up. (Caveat: I've got chilblains Reynauds... cold hands and feet.) Sorry to go on.

I love to travel in knit pants, a warm jersey knit shirt, a jacket and comfy shoes. I'm allergic to wool.

Wool& makes fine merino clothing and their merino is blended with nylon — quite durable and not stinky. They also have a 100 day challenge where you can get a $100 credit if you wear one of their dresses for 100 days straight.

I appreciate all your tips. I went white whiter rafting ages ago and I wore a pure wool sweater. (first time whitewater rafter, did not know what to wear other than a bathing suit). It was late October, it was Canada, it was cold. But that wool kept me surprisingly warm, even though I was drenched.

If you're not a fan of jeans.... A great alternative I love flying in are scrub pants! So many brands with so many different color options, most have cargo pockets for wallets/phones, or a passport many with or without zipper pockets. I look for ones treated with silvadur an antimicrobial finish, moisture repelling or water wicking and anti-wrinkle, odor reducing. Best of all they are far comfier than jeans, moves and feels closer to athletic wear, and many brands also sell jackets with fantastic large work pockets with zippers. Some even come in neutral colors and look more like office wear these days. One brand even makes theirs with recycled plastic bottles. Happy travels.

Okay, I had to come back and tell you that I bought the Aviator Travel Jeans at your recommendation. They just arrived and I LOVE THEM! I have been a pull-on jeans gal for awhile now because they are so comfortable and non-binding, but there are virtually no front pockets and fairly small back pockets. I was fortunate to get a Last Call pair at a considerable savings. The size fit perfectly and just as comfortable as my pull-ons but with POCKETS! Thanks again for the suggestion and your informative videos.

I do have one question, and I can’t figure out whether this is the video to post it on or not. You’ve explained how to travel for a long periods with a very limited, but carefully chosen and adaptable wardrobe. But if you’re on the road most of the time, how is it that you never seem to be wearing the same clothing more than once in these videos?

I am thinking of purchasing the jeans and have some questions! I have scoured the internet with no luck. I travel often using only a carry on and usually cannot wash things overseas unless I can do it in the sink or shower, ect. Can these jeans be hand washed and dried in your experience? How long can you wear them until you HAVE to wash them so that they don't stink or lose their shape?
Thank you in advanced!

Every time I fly I forget to not wear jeans and to wear a hoodie. I know you just reminded me but knowing me I'm just going to forget this the next time I fly. I'm hopeless in these regards. Thanks for trying though. At least I don't wear a jeans hoodie, and yes, that was my passport. 🤣

I love love love my Aviator travel jeans. They’re so soft, stretchy and SO MUCH MORE comfy than any other jeans. And, yea, the pockets! A huge plus. (And I don’t get any payback for compliments).
All that said, I’m small. Not sure how they’d be for a plus-size.
But I didn’t even know they did merino shirts. Will definitely check that out.
