I don't get the prompt to restore chat on the new phone, even after uninstalling and re-installing whatsapp. I can look in the settings_chat and see my old backup is there, so I know I have a backup. There doesn't seem to be a button to "restore from back up" - what am I missing?

I am trying to reatore the message. Not changing the phone... but still no help. Even if i delete the app and try to reinatall... it just logs in automatically and does not let me reatore the back up. WtF!!!

What if the backup was done on a different Google account then the default when setting up the phone. How will Whatsapp know which Google account to pull the backup from?

This is pure BS!!!!!! Your stupid F'ing app doesn't give the option to "restore". I should have several backups. It was supposed to back up DAILY. Each time I restore, it remembers my photo and just loads ZERO messages. There IS NO OPTION to restore like in your video.

If the backup is on a google account mentioned how can access that backup without deleting n installing the app again...why have a backup in a google account when it's so difficult to access it...

if anyone still wondering how to fix it, you have to allow permission for the app to access your storage, I did it and the restoration screen came up

For those not getting the "Restore Backup" prompt, on the new phone, go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup and select the Google Account you previously backed up your chats with your old phone. Then uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp on the new phone and you should get the prompt. At least this worked for me, hope it helps!

How to restore without having back up

It's unbelievably dumb and complicated at the same time. To reduce idiotism of the procedure, just make an option "restore from google account". Not automatically. Manually. And easily to understand where it is placed, for not to search for it. Two big buttons with google drive logo :"backup" - "restore from backup". Not playing with this boring half-working "old phone"-"new phone" - code, qr-code etc.

I have 2 backups for the same number on 2 different Google drive accounts
At the same day the newer one is smaller in size and WhatsApp keeps restoring it
I need to restore the older larger one
They are on 2 different Google drive account

For people complaining about restore option not popping up while reinstalling whatsApp.
1. Uninstall whatsApp
2. Perform all initial processes while reinstalling.
3. Enter the password.
4. "Allow all" Permission to access photos nd videos. (This is the main step. By default, limited access is enabled in most phones.)
5. Voila.!!!! Restore will pop up now

If "Restore Backup" option does not pop up, make sure that you allowed every permission. When it asks permission for photo and videos, don't choose "When only using app" which is on the top. Choose 2nd option "Allow everyone" or "Allow everytime" (I'm not sure which one) instead. My app language is different so the labels are not %100 correct but you got the idea. After you choose that, that option should pop out.

annoys me how i have to delete the app from my phone then reinstall and set up again to get it to grab the back up. Pretty lame.. just make it a setting we can click on. also, mine was set to a month, wish i knew that.. lots of stuff happens in a month and ive lost it all.
