Hi, I was wondering if you've done ran the same test lately with RX 6900 XT? Has any of the scores changed, especially with regards to Premiere Pro? The reason I asked is because I've read that recent driver updates of the last few months have seen improvements in Adobe productivity apps, but I have yet to see actual videos showing it.

Damn, while the 3090 has an overall edge productivity wise (especially in cuda optimized workloads), the 6900XT is still a really solid performer! For 3D editing, it's very close to the 3090. For video editing, even though the Cuda optimized software is definitely not a level playing field for the AMD GPU's, the 6900XT still performed about 2/3rds as good - honestly not that bad!

I managed to get a 6900XT up for $530 Open Box. If I want to dabble into 3D work or video editing as an amateur, it will be perfectly fine. I'm upgrading from a GTX 970, but I have a 5950X build. Though I didn't get it primarily for productivity (Unless you consider heavy game modding productivity), it's nice to see it does it plenty good enough if I want to get into it.

I do have to wonder how much that 7700K was holding back all of the GPU's.

Can you please re-do these tests again? Due to many things had been changed this year, like:
- blender 3.x
- cycles engine support AMD gpu cards.
- HIP for Amd gpu cards.
- AMD updated their drivers (including opencl optimization).

And if you added Optix vs Prorender 3.4 thats will be great!

Do those same tests with the latest Blender 3.2.2 or Blender 3.3 and the results are MUCH more favorable for the 6900 XT.

I think Optix would've halve the time of Nvidia. I was waiting for AMD to update their render engine but so far no luck. Too bad I am going to Nvidia this time! 6900xt is a bit cheaper though.

The MAJOR problem I have with this "Comparison" is that you are comparing AIB models of the 3080, 3090 with the AMD Stock 6900XT which is shitty when you compare it to AIB models (so any close results between the 3090 and the 6900XT shown would mean that an AIB 6900XT - like a PowerColor Red Devil 6900XT - would win hands down).

That last test man... If you're rendering 12 bit 60p 8K red footage and you can't afford a 3090... What happened between one and the other? 😂

Very helpful as I'm looking for a card for DaVinci Resolve (I don't do gaming) and cards are finally coming down in price now. It looks like AMD isn't even in the running for Resolve (I'm not doing 8k footage LOL), so 3080 12gb looks like the way to go.

For a second there I got a little sad watching the 3090 coming below the other two cards... realized lower is faster =). I purchased one last year for Msrp got lucky. Just haven't seen it's comparisions on the editing side of things.
I usually put my money on the company that is doing great job creating a good product. So I got my Amd 5950x processor and 3090. I should be good for years to come for my workload.

@Justin with 3090 prices coming down and a ftw3 evga costing 1699 would 2 6900xt still be outperformed in davinci by a 3090? 6900xt power color is 999.

Did you use optix in blender? Nvidia should destroy amd with optix

shame resolve is still not optimized for Radeon. world has changed, intel and nvidia are not the only game players now, hear me da vinci! optimize your software for amd as you did for m1!

Wow this was super helpful. I was all set to buy the 6900 XT due to it having 16GB verse 3080 has 10GB and based on websites that compare performance and stats the 6900 came out way on top but based on this it looks like specifically for video editing the 6900 is way behind. I will only be using it for editing. I dont do any gaming at all. The current price difference between the two is only $100 so I assumed the 6900 would be the way to go.

Alot of people use Vegas, and funny enough AMD crushes rendering in it.

Much better performance when paired with 5900x/5950x which needs to be clarified as well. Always helpful for context to mention your cpu model. Other than that, great video.

Note that OpenCL is outdated it really really really sucks so it is a hard task for the AMD GPUs to keep up with the NVidia GPUs. But once Blender officially releases version 3.0 we will have access to the completly rewritten Cycles render engine and that means AMD GPUs probably finally get proper hardware acceleration (HIP) and will not bug out every second render.

Oh, and dont get me wrong, Im not an AMD fanboy. I really couldnt care more about branding. Its just that AMD has the cheaper "big boyz amount" of VRAM (6800 / 6800XT / 6900XT / PRO W6800 - 32 freaking GB of VRAM for 2.3K EUR - current price, not MSRP) and more VRAM means more freedom (or just bein a lazy scrab that hates optimizing texture resulutions).

Can any of you guys provide any insight on how the 6900XT is with using the Unreal Engine, Maya, Z Brush and 3DSMax please? Would it be an ok purchase? I'm not a professional, but may look into becoming professional one day. I would have looked at the 3090 but at £2500+ it is way out of my league and the 6900XT is cheaper than an RTX 3080Ti with 4GB more VRAM. Any help/advice would be great on whether this would be a good buy now or wait for the next generation next year (as prices are still massively over MSRP). Many thanks!

Thanks for the video. I have a question about video editing: is these differences apparent in practice? 3080's export score on Premiere Pro is almost the double of 6900XT. Question is, if it's the difference between 10 seconds and 5 seconds, it's not that much, but if it's 60 seconds and 30 seconds difference, then it really matters.

I have my eyes on an XFX 6900 XT, and I'm really reluctant about switching to NVIDIA because of the prices...

This is the video I was looking for! Thank you so much. Basically, it’s about optimisation and software and maybe VRAM and finally which is faster and how much time and patience you have. Adobe tools are best designed on nvidia cards and hands down Nvidia cards are awesome for content creation. But for those of us people on tight budgets but willing to spend £1.5k+ on a gpu… (1st world problems!)… AMD 6900xt and possibly 6800xt are great alternatives. Given 3080ti 12gb is almost same price or more expensive than a base after market RYX3090, depending where you are… best save and buy AMD6900xt or save more and get standard 3090. Will still do the job. Just one card is faster on certain or most content creation and editing software tools. Thank you and I can draw comparisons of your non bias review here with Jarrod’s Tech who also does a great job on gaming and content creation review of GPUs. Subbed! Keep it up!

I've currently got a 6900xt, it does the job when it comes to blender, but I have been tempted to get a second one, if you're wondering why, it is cheaper to have two 6900xt then it is 1 3090 in Australia currently

Blender need to be set to Optix. Instead of Open GL.

The speed would be much faster on 3090. OpenGL will not be supported going forward with Blender 3.0

I'm happy with my 6900 xt. Not the best for productivity, but it still gets the job done. Luckily, I'm more into playing games than video editing and 3D rendering. Seeing 3080 can't do 8k in resolve sucks because Nvidia likes screwing their fans with lack of vram. Still think a 3080, or at the least a 3080 ti should get 16 GB like AMD.
