Why, like most western documentaries, do you erase Slavs as a (racial) group targeted by the Nazis? Poles weren't just killed because they were POWs, they were killed because they were Slavs. Slavs were hated almost as much as Jews by the Nazis, and more Slavs were killed in Nazi death camps than Jews were. They arguably had it worse, as the Nazis hated them on several grounds: for their race and for their ideology (Communism), as well the fact they'd had to fight against them.

It is not true that Hitler had made the decision months before the Wannsee conference to exterminate the Jews. There exists to this day not a shred of documentary or oral evidence that he had any knowledge of the final solution. It is clear, however, that Himmler and Heydrich were directly responsible for the final solution and that the SS carried it out with brutality and grim determination.

In answer to your question, I would say he bears full responsibility. I get all the experience of war and suffering and gaol, but, ultimately people are responsible for their own actions. He was a fascist and fascists are clearly responsible for a lot of suffering in our world historically and, in fact, right now with Donald Trump, Bolsonaro etc. Let's not give them any lee way to escape the responsibility for their crimes. Furthermore, let's not vote for them in some suicidal pact where we think we can control them once in government. The world needs to understand how destructive fascism and right wing politics is, and now is a critical time to understand this fact. Without that understanding we are headed for climate, geopolitical and economic disaster.

It’s crazy that 80 year ago for murder or treason the prison sentences are like 10 years of which they serve a fraction. Yet today if you walk thru the capitol after the police let you in, you get held for 3 years without a trial and then just sentenced by a judge… and who was the fascist? 😂

I really like your documentaries. Nice to listen to while walking outside. But please: The National Socialist German Workers Party is short NSDAP, not Nazi Party. Others say it as well. As to the mention & recrimination for the Allies not bombing the camp I couldn't help thinking it perfectly fits the "no good deed goes unpunished" dilemma. Had they dropped bombs on Auschwitz somehow I suspect there'd have been vilification reparations and class action lawsuits in perpetuity to benefit the innocent victims and the never innocent lawyers.
