I hope the passage of time from five years ago to today has opened your eyes.

It was not the game that changed the community, but the community that changed the game. It's always easier to blame others, but simply look to how the Classic iteration of vanilla has been twisted into a mockery of what original players like you and I got to experience and enjoy.

I'll be kinder, so let's say that a feedback loop was created. In the pursuit of the minmax of our time, efforts, and rewards? we let the conveniences that came with that "polish" rot away at the core of our community.

I moved away from World of Warcraft near the end of WotLK for the most part. I made little trips back between Cataclysm and Dragonflight.

And it was tolerable when not fun so long as you had a guild, but even those are a struggle to keep together in this era of cookie cutter builds, obscene expectations, decay that came with the heightened expectations, and the agonizing malaise that developed with the passage of time.

Look to the past to inform our future, but never try to live in the past since we can never go home again.

My favorite moment has got to be for me when I was leveling up and leveling enchanting. Id say in trade chat "Offering enchant of this or that tips appreciated. And people lined up tipped some and it was just so awesome

TBC>WotLK. Even tho I loved both. TBC was when I really learned the game and for me the zones were better. More memories.

I love coming back to these videos Madseason :) I have a magazine which reviewed TBC when it launched, it was met with praise, the new zones looked amazing, new gear and stuff for professions - in the reviewers words "it was a much needed adrenaline for those that kept playing long enough"

The Burning Crusade was def the best of WoW for sure. Vanilla too, but TBC was something else. Loved the zones, the quests, the open world pvp all of it was great.

If all the years on Nost plus Classic Vanilla TBC and now WotLK, I have to say... as much as i enjoyed the first 2 expansions, nothing quite matches Vanilla for me.

Wrath episode one day… somehow…

rewatching this in 2022 while all of what he said about the community rings true and odd thing seems to have happened with retail vs classic, alot of the very try hard and with them the toxic players sub for classic in bursts and whats left in retail seem to be far more social and friendly activly talking in dungeons and stuff. maybe its the loss of players and the truly passionate players being left but we have all kind of huddled together and become a nice place to play.

Me and my wife decide to try out world of Warcraft once classic was released, I figured it wouldn't hurt to play The Base classic game before moving on to retail and I remember enjoying it very much when I tried it out. Then I tried retail wow and me and her were blown away by how different it was, wow classic seem like an MMO RPG with some action elements, retail reminds me of an MMO action game with sprinkles of RPG elements.
I definitely like it's classic version much better, it feels more important that I select the right abilities at the right times. This newer version feels like it doesn't matter as long as I just get the damage numbers out there and all that matters is that the gear numbers keep getting better, so I never feel connected to my gear because within an hour or two I'll have replaced it. I remember we almost quit during the tutorial on rails section due to sheer frustration of being locked into the quest.

Three terrible changes......
lvl cap going up making all classic content obsolete.
Flying mounts making traveling non interesting and new and random encounters non-existent.
Capital city for all factions.

Otherwise BC was good.
