Dude, don't even go there and take the "Judo Chop" move from us. We have seen Star Trek and the double fisted back hand, aka the Super Pimp Slap manuever and the Will Smith Back Handed Pimp Slap, so when we see the fights a good old Judo Karate Chop move is the way to go with the fight music comes on.

Back in the day, I trained 4 styles: Goju Ryu and Shotokan felt to me like the same thing, I didn't even understand the 2 names. Then Tae Kwon Do, felt somewhat different, lot more legs, somehow more "gymnastic" If I may say so, and the most different to the other 3: Aikido.
It's been over 20 years since I last trained any of it, but I keep using them in my daily life: Discipline, the drive to keep going even in adversity, the understanding of bio mechanics, certain movements that are more efficient... I think that's what all martial arts are really about.
As for actual combat, It would seem to me we've come full circle: MMA is now gathering all of the known martial arts and combining them, we expanded from the Okinawa styles to every known style so far. Feels like a good evolution to me.

I've seen your videos before, and i have not been a big Karate guy, i have however enjoyed watching American , (Ed Parkers) Kenpo. If i were to train a Karate Style, that would be the one i would Choose. I like Jeff Speakman too. I enjoy your videos very much, especially the one on the Hyped up 1st UFC, i'm not a fan of B J J and never will be. The arts i've train in at least a little are western boxing, (My old man was Golden Gloves), Aikido for under a year, Muay Thai, Wing Chun, Kali, and Kuntao Silat. I really enjoy your videos.

That´s great. I train Uechi-ryu since 1988 (6´ dan), but before that I trained a lot of Shotokan (1´dan), Shito-ryu (2´ dan) , Goju-ryu (3´ dan). Although Uechi-ryu is my favorite style, the kata I most enjoy performing is Goju-ryu's Suparimpei. Therefore, my daily Karate training is a mix of Naha-Te, Shuri-Te, Tomari-Te and Pangai-Noon, with Wing-Chun which I have been training for over 20 years. Fantastic video. Thanks.

I think to call a style a fake is a bit disrespectful. After all styles lasted many decades if not centuries. Also there are specific reasons why styles develop due to local conditions and challenges and the bodies and knowledge of those who practice them . If you translate karate to a language and styles to dialects of that language then you discover all the styles must be given respect as emerging variations of a common heritage. However I always teach my students and encourage them to develop their own personal style as after all these are martial arts we are talking about and as such we are all artists with our own style that best fits our own experience, intelligence, skills and flair. Sort of a dialect of one!

Ironically, Judo also came from China. Similar to Karate it is a simplified version, but this time of Shuai Jao.

Lastly, Okinawa was not fully “Japanese” at the time either. It was only colonized by the Japanese in the mid 1800s. It was known as the Ryukyu Kingdom and had a totally separate identity, language, and culture.

I don’t often train myself in martial arts, but I have been watching Karate practitioners doing their moves. I highly enjoyed watching Shotokan and Kyokushin, but I barely find differences between them. I just know that each style has their own rules. Nonetheless, they’re all Karate.

Maybe you should do a "no style playlist" so people stop asking you about styles. I see where you are coming from, yet try it from my angle. Lets say every business is the same, they all have accountants, workers and machines. But you do not go and mix them up all by yourself, but you go and let specialists in their field work together. Same with karate. First you learn one business until you understand how it works and what it does, then you could start and change the business or something, so you see what lets itself translate and what needs to be mastered new. The difference in style comes from the difference in people, you cannot let someone with a sumo body doing flying kicks over five chairs.

The original name for Karate in Japan is "Tang hand" or "Tang-te." It derived from the Chinese characters "唐手," which referred to the martial arts that originated in China (specifically in the Tang Dynasty). Over time, the pronunciation and writing of the term changed, and it eventually became known as "Karate" in Japan.
Yes, the term "tong" can also be spelled as "tang" in some contexts. Both spellings are used interchangeably to refer to Chinese secret societies or organizations. The variation in spelling can be attributed to differences in transliteration systems from Chinese characters to English.
