One of the things I like about the Fuji system is that their midrange glass is as good or better than other companies first tier lenses. Then you get to the red badge stuff or classics like the 56mm f1.2 and it's just jaw dropping good.
I have the 18 f2, 35 f2, and 56mm f1.2.
They all have given me amazing images with nothing more I could ask for. The 18mm is 24mm equivalent but feels wider somehow? It's amazing on a good bright day for street photography.
The 56mm is a perfect lens. Forget what you heard about loud or slow focusing. The images it creates are amazing. I finally get what these bloggers are talking about with microcontrast. Tack sharp. Perfect color.
The 35mm was the first lens I got with my XT3. It's roughly 50mm equivalent so it presents a normal field of view. Which at first can be kind of boring and samey. But its pretty damn sharp from 5.6 up. Small, focuses great. It's kind of become my baseline because it goes right down the middle on every feature.

Finally swapped my 23mm F1.4 for a F2. The size of the 1.4 is the biggest problem as I like shovelling my XT-30 into a small bag and the 1.4 is a touch too big to comfortably anywhere...

Is the 35mm 1.4 worth $800 just for that character everyone seams to talk about?

Thanks Chris, and great review! I'm looking at these three ranges currently. Btw, Canada's health care is far from free. Canadians can verify this by how much is sucked out of their paycheck. Be well!

The 23mm f2 is something special. For the price, $449 USD, it’s a really difficult lens to beat regardless of brand or system. Solid WR, sharp all the way around while still having some character, the focusing is FAST, and the size is small without being too small. A great one lens for a one body set up

You didn't mention anything about video performance, I do both and I heard that the older lens has noisy autofocus motor. For 35mm is the XF35 f2 WR a good choice? What about image stabilisation? Fuji is funny that v few lenses have OIS - would that present a problem for video (or doesn't matter if I used a gimbo most of the time?)

Great comparison ! If you have to choose only one all rounder lens then what would it be? 23mm F2 or 35mm F2?

I have the 18mm/f2, 35/f1.4 and 56mm/f1.2 as yet no 23mm but that will come at some point in 2022 but which version. I like the idea of a 1.4 version but it is heavy compared to the f2 version which would fit nicely on my XPro1, decisions decisions decisions.

Dang what’s rebar doing sticking up out of the path? For anyone that sees that sort of thing take a rock and pound it into the ground! If you can’t do that pile some rocks on top of it and call the city. I live in Korea and recently saw a nail sticking up out of the sidewalk. I don’t speak the language well and it was quicker to grab a nearby brick and pound it down. I’m sure passers by were wondering what the crazy American was doing but at least I knew I was preventing an accident like this.
Thanks for the comparisons in spite of your accident! Just what I was looking for!

yea, but what's the uncorrected distortion like? 35/f2 is a distorted mess without software correction. That affects image quality and workflow... the vaunted 23/f2 is a blurry mess at close focusing distances and vignette - just terrible for anything other than street stopped down.

23mm f2 is soft up close, needs to be stopped down to 5,6 or more for decent sharpness, prefer the 1.4 for the way i use the lens.

Would you travel to Europe with just a Fuji XT-4 + 23mm f/2? I'm unsure whether to do this or take my R6 at 24-105 f/4. I would like to get rid of the weight, but I don't know if I would be risking too much. I would also have an iPhone and a GoPro. What's your opinion?
