Lost Odyssey for the xbox 360 has a whopping 4 discs

Fun fact: Final Fantasy Type-0 did a ME2/3 and had most of the game on the 2nd disc.

Also we got Trails in the Sky SC in English, but digitally. It was split up into two applications.

The first game I played that did this was syphon filter 2. It needed two discs :)

Anyone knows how can I create my own blu-ray video game? I want to transfer my digital games into a blu-ray. I want to purchase all of the equipment necessary and learn the process. I want to make my own collection. I’m tired of the digital only era. This is a personal request. Anyone knows how this is made or where can I find such info?

this was nuts, I had recently bought Lost Odyssey for xbox360 off of a friend recommendation, and I had no idea it came on 4 discs so when the worker was like "alright hold on gotta get all the discs" I was like all of them???

I brought a copy of splinter cell: pandora tomorrow for PC a few years ago, it was missing the disk to start the game

Also ID software worked out that doom 2016 would of needed over 50,000 floppy disks to install the entire game on pc

Also, technically sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles are multi cart games, while they work fine by themselves they were originally intended to be one long game, but they split the game into 2 carts and added the cartridge port ontop of sonic and knuckles to allow you to connect the two games

While sadly not environmentally friendly, had to say that I miss those multidisc games, it had the power to give you progression as you almost always had to swap discs during an important part of the game or big environments change, or could be a "status reference" "you will see when you are on disc 3 how the story goes..."

And now the next Final fantasy 7 rebirth on ps5 is gonna have 2 discs. It never truly ends.

Nobody ever swap out the FF VIII discs? You could totally cheese the game by going into Balamb Garden's training area and swapping out disc 1 for disc 2 or 3. You would encounter much stronger monsters there as it would load the enemy data off that disc and you were expected to be much higher level by then. As a result you could drain and junction super strong magic early on in the game and just steamroll everything.

Our problem these days is getting the full game on day one instead of having to download several GB's worth of content every few months, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Fra Cry 6, Super Mario Maker 2 and many more.

A couple of years ago i bought fifa 17 on pc it was 7 discs! And at the and i used the the gamekey and downloaded it…

FF7 has 4 disc. Disc 3 has error. I inserted disc 4 . It works. Game continues. Some movie is missing though i guess.

Yo... $60 dude? Despite it's history, it's a rip off. Whoever has the Legacy Collection on PS3 should feel lucky. That also includes MGS Peace Walker HD (PSP) and of course MGS4. Just MGS1 isn't on the disc somehow.

When i spend $60 for a video game and it comes with two disks it makes me think i actually got something for my money.

Since you mentioned multi game compilations, I'll add in Pac-Man World 3. The first disc was the full game, while the second disc contained Pac-Man VS, a unique multiplayer game that made use of the Gamecube's link cable accessory. One player would be be Pac-Man, and see the whole maze on the GBA screen. Up to 3 other players would be the ghosts, and see part of the maze on the split screen TV. The development history is interesting because it was designed by Nintendo EAD as a tech demo for the link cable, then was polished into a full game. So there you go. Miyamoto made a Pac-man game.

On that note, the Gamecube link cable could make for an interesting video. If Wikipedia is to be believed, only 60 games used it. Some were full multiplayer experiences, like Crystal Chronicles and Four Sword Adventures. Some added mini maps, while others just used it to scan e-reader cards.

The sims 1 (+Expansionn) and Woyw come to my mind with over 6 discs each.

A blank Gamecube Disc is a Mini-DVD.

The original Wing Commander came on 11 5.25" standard floppy disks. Much more common were three 5.25" HD or six 3.5" DD disks.
I had it on my Sega Saturn CD as I hadn't moved to the 'PC Master Race' at that time.

Klingon Academy was shipped on six CD-ROM discs. The game was great for the time, but Interplay fired the developers after it went gold, and never released the promised expansions and add-ons.
Too bad, that game was a blast.

My current Skyrim modded install is Nolvus...and it is 345GB so would take 4 100GB disks to install if it were a legitimate game....1900+ mods.....

With Mass Effect 2, this, unfortunately, castrated the game even on PC: there are voice lines for four companions from the second half for most early missions but you can't hear them without cheating or modding. Tali has entire reunion subplot with Garrus and also Kaidan or Ash on Horizon that console players never experience and neither do most PC gamers.

Another reason to pursue the new format was to sell more consoles: DVD players were expensive early on so a PS2 would often be a better purchase. So Sony made people in fence of buying a console but needing a DVD player get it. Blu-ray was even more expensive on release, in fact to this day I don't have a PC with BD drive, my ONLY Blue Ray thing is an old PS3 slim.

Good video, note on Metal Gear Solid: it had almost no cinematics. It's audio files for endless cutscenes and codec calls that took a lot of space and many weren't repeated between disks.


Outside of Otacon and Liquid dialogue flashbacks with a minute or so each of real life documentary footage spliced in, the only FMV I can recall was the end credits.

There's a Dreamcast RPG by Capcom called El Dorado Gate.
The game spans seven discs but each disc was released episodically on a bi-monthly basis from October 2000 to October 2001.

Trails in the Sky SC on PSP came on two UMDs but the english version was only released digitally, but that didn't stop you having to exit the game, and start up the 2nd disc (which had the exact same icon and title mind you .. ) ha ha
