Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen vs PreSonus 24c | USB-C Audio Interface Showdown

Scarlett ftw! It sounded more full/balanced to me. Stability so far with my 18i20 has been great. After learning how to use focusrite control, it's very nice. Working well with windows 10. I'm still deciding on the air settings, but leaning towards having air off on everything but drum overheads. The gear is very heavy and everything just works. Installing the drivers was easy, learning focusrite control was frustrating, but once you get it, it all makes sense

For vocals and keys, witch one is better?

I'm currently looking to get a bit of a music setup going and hopefully learn to play better and maybe use a DAW to bring things together. I put on some headphones to listen and I thought there sounded to be a bit more body to the low end to me on the 2i2 but I seem to prefer the Presonus sound overall.
I also have some old midi gear (synth and groovebox) I'd like to use so the midi through has pretty clinched it but I would have preferred the headphone socket on the front.

Who love Sound Music they will Choose 24c 😉

I'm aware this video has the Presonus 24c instead. Just sharing my usage findings.

I've used the Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen for my Church Livestream audio interface for about a year, and it was doing fairly well. The 2i2 was stretched a bit further than designed probably to get what I needed out of it as an interface. Channel 1 into the interface, then USB to PC, monitor out 1 to a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro camera switcher, and headphone out to feed a hearing assist device.

However, I just this past week swapped in the Presonus Studio 68c, not the 24c, for a few reasons. I didn't care about the extra input/output count, I have 1 mono signal off my Aux Master mix from the Soundcraft Ui16 mixer going to the USB interface. So it's a fairly hot signal, and if it's turned down much, it messes up the mix balance in my opinion. The 68c has a Line switch on input 1 & 2 that will engage with every power on, and it seems like it's switching a relay to switch in and out of Line level. I don't know how much of a pad it adds, but it's very helpful for my scenario. Meters were a nice addition too. My output from the USB to the PC now goes into the included Studio One Artist v6 DAW that gets a few plugins added to shape sounds a bit before returning to the 68c main outputs that go to the ATEM input channel 1 and hearing assist device like before, but without using headphones, hence better sound on the hearing assist unit.

Sound quality between the 2? Pretty similar until the plugins do their thing.

Scarlett Focusrite has more comfortable and usage software called "Focusrite control", Presonus "UniversalControl" has very tiny options, basically for only change sample rate.

Are the main outs on the presonus balanced? Cause the ones on the scarlett are

Great video. I just purchased the 24c as I just heard so many stories about the installation of the focusrite on Windows 10. I love the fact that it has midi and the display.

I use the audio interface for play and record the guitar with Amp simulation (Amplitube, Bias). which of these two cards is better for it?

In my modest opininon : focusrite on the recording has more attractive sound, I feel it is full and juicy, Presonus is flat but I need midi so decision is one...
And after buying Presonus : I think very good choice, they give free DAW: Studio One. I work with this set and I have great impressions!

In terms of preamps PreSonus is a clear winner. No doubts.

I just bought a 24c after using 2i2. If you are looking to record with a little better volume, the 24c is the way to go. I did not like the volume levels on the 2i2 because it would make that hissing noise a lot in the recording. With the 24c, you do not have to jack up the input volume and suffer through by hissing noise to get a clear and balanced sound.

Can you connect presonus studio 24c to android phone?

Thankyou so much for this usefull comparison. I like Presonus better. Focusrite is louder, but it doesn't cut low ends. So it sounds bbbemm...bbbemmm. Presonus sounds more clean and professional

anyone know if I can use a USB-a to USB-c cable to power these devices? my PC only has USB-a connectors...

To me, the scarlet has a slightly clearer and louder sound. Presonus appears to require much more software Gain to make it work. Why does the Presonus sound like the low end is lacking ? Also, wish the headphone jack was on the front. Focusrite it is for me then.

After hearing this I'm sure glad I got the Pre Sonus. Scarlet has distinly fuzzy edge.

It sounds very different on bass area. 24C has loopback function and no latency monitoring nob

The Scarlett is much a richer, thicker sound.

I'm puzzled by audio interfaces and the testing of them... If I'm hooked up to the computer, I should be able to do any equalization and filtering required to make one AI sound like another, right? I'm going to fiddle with either one because... well, because I can. What I would really like to know is which software suite is "better". I know that is a complex and personal issue, but that's where the complexity is. I mean, if you want to swap/upgrade/change interface for some reason, these user grade interfaces aren't expensive. But if you just spent a year learning to use the software, that is a lot harder to throw out.
And now I find myself wanting to switch from Audacity because of the new company policies... so which way to jump?
I've heard good things about Studio One (Presonus).

I just purchased the PreSonus 24C after having a Scarlett Solo. Loved the Scarlett for what I am doing with it. But I also just purchased a Line6 Pod Go and with all of the bad ass stereo patches and effect on there, the Scarlett solo had run it's course for me (the Solo doesn't have the dual XLR-1/4 inch jacks and doesn't have stereo without using adapters. So the PreSonus just seemed to be a better match (my local shop didn't have the Scarlett 2i2 in stock so that also factored in. lol. But so far so good. Easy to install and use and it sounds great.

Focusrite has way better low end. Other than that, I like the Presonus better.

the scarlet seems to have a better definition, does it boost certain Hz and the presonus is flatter?

Wait a minute, the display shows Presonus 2i2 instead of Presonus 24c. In my headset the Focusrite 2i2 gen 3 sounds way better than the presonus. Juliaplaysgroove uses that Scarlett 2i2 and all her recordings sound awesome. Do another test and boost the volumes. The presonus will induce hiss when using better microphones. Do another test and crank them both.

Great review, bit late to the game her but I'm looking to replace my very cheap Behringer, it's the Presonus for me, the midi swung it, as our drummer has an electric practice kit at home, so I can plug this straight in for recording demos, at home, 👍👍👍

Ha! Awesome to read the comments here. Some say the Scarlett is muddier than 24c, others that it’s brighter. Just goes to show, it’s a matter of taste - not so much a perceived ‘quality’ of the gear.

I notice hiss is not an issue with the 24C because it has less top end...smile. The Scarlet is fuller sounding and Presonus seemed to collapse the sound down, or was thinner. I noticed the Presonus accented the nasal frequencies of the guitar also. I have an early Presonus iTwo and an Audient Evo, and will consider the Scarlet now. The USB-C is a selling point, as I record videos with iPad and iPhone a lot and hate to use an Apple camera connection kit. I was listening on Bose earbuds and didn’t hear hiss on the Focusrite. Without earbuds, extreme highs does sound bit like hiss though. Letting people know what I listened through.
