How this Pokemon Ruined Competitive Play

I’d personally nerf Urshifu in this way:
1 - Unseen Fist still works the same, except that if a physical contact move lands when a Pokemon is using protect, its damage will be reduced by 20% and Urshifu’s speed will be lowered by 1 stage.

Why not just ban Urshifu from VGC?

Urshifu felt inadequate when the other legendaries questioned why it should count so overcompensated with an ability Arceus itself fears

A lot valid points are made to nerf this ability, but in reality just reclassifying Urshifu as a restricted legendary (same class as Kyogre, Necrozma, etc.) would do a lot to balance it out

Pokémon like ferrothorn are also missing to make them think twice about clicking surging strikes.

You failed to mention that it's a great counter to incinaroar which is the biggest cancer in the game.

My iron valiant has no issue with urshifu. I’m able to almost always (as long as they don’t detect) k.o it with a non swords dance close combat. The issue is that my iron valiant then becomes as useless as it will fall easy to any other Pokémon that even looks at it since it’s defense and special defense drop after close combat. But hey at least I get to immediately k.o urshifu as soon as it hits the field.

I think Urshifu sort of proves that bans are kind of needed in a good competitive meta. Sure a lot of people rag on singles for banning a lot of things. But it allows singles to be a more balanced and competitive meta like Pokemon, and allows for multiple playstyles. Doubles lacking that really causes the issue where when Pokemon are super good they cause the meta to become over centralized. It’s may be time for doubles to consider bans so the meta isn’t constantly just focused on a specific set of Pokemon

These DLC are pretty much just pay to win. How else are you supposed to get people to buy the DLC

As much as I hate Urshifu design wise I feel instead of banning it we should either ban or nerf Detect, Protect and all other move nullifiers
Even just making it Protect a single attack (including those from Multi-hit moves), [edit:] allowing “always hitting” moves to ignore Protects and buffing abilities like Infiltrator [/edit] would be enough
[Edit:]And to slightly even it back out make all Protecting moves nullify Critical Hit chances so those moves which do hit it only do basic damage (unless it’s Urshifu)[/edit]

am not an expert, but aren't ghost type pokemons the key to Urshifu, since they cant get hit with physical moves ?

how would an always-crit move like Flower Trick or Surging Strikes interact with a Pokemon with the ability Shell Armor (can't be hit by Critical Hits)? Would you just get a "But it failed" or would Urshifu just muscle his big bear pawwy way through that too?

I still refuse to buy SwSh's DLC, because the base game sucked and I shouldn't have to pay $30 for something that should've been there at Day 1.

Ive looked everywhere online since urshifu came out back in the isle of armor to determine whether or not a pokemon with mold breaker using protect actually gets to protect against urshifu from what i can tell i am the only one curious about this interaction did it just slip everyones mind or does it just not work also when i saw hearthflame Ogerpon starting to be used in the competetive scene i figured it could have been due to this mold breaker vs unseen fist interaction

I'd like to see a regulation set that allows more than one of a pokedex slot, as long as it is different forms. It'd be cool to see both Ursaluna or both Lanodorus forms on the same team, or in the case of this video, both Urshifu forms.

It's interesting, but this isn't a problem with dudunsparce, despite the fact it also hits through protect.

Looking for a little help to pull this team together, tryna run the indigo dlc with Pokemon I haven't used before in the game series. Not looking for competitive advice, just something to help these mons synergize better. I got Metagross, alolamona, duraladon, camerupt, braviary, and the sixth is up in the air rn. Just like in any competitive game ever in existence, the game is balanced, people just didn't understand that if they want to play whatever they want, they will be lower tier players and that's completely fine, you don't see mono singeds in challenger, you don't see of meta decks in TCGs getting higher spots, in every competitive game the meta revolves around a smaller group of characters and that's it... It's about time people start accepting this reality.

Curse can still take effect even when the opponent uses protect

Always crit attacks and unseen fist are both very unhealthy for the game in general. Is it ruined? Of course not. It's never been balanced or particularly good as a competitive game. But the powercreep is catching up fast - we're about to start approaching yu-gi-oh levels at this rate.

Of course - nothing will likely be done. Pokemon games exist to get people into pokemon to sell merch. It's all about the merch now.
