Why The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Is A PERFECT Spider-Man Movie (feat. HiTop Films) | Video Essay

For years, I've avoided this film like the plague. I hated it's predecessor and everyone said it was worse. Plus the trailers and clips made it look like a trainwreck.

Recently, I decided to watch it, thinking it would be good for a laugh. I was surprised to find myself ranking it as one of my favorite Spider-Man movies.

It did a lot right and got a lot right about the character and universe the other movies missed. It does have issues. It's clear they tried to shoehorn in sequel bait and bait for a Sinister Six movie. The goblin transformation was a bit rushed. And Peter came off way too creepy and controlling towards Gwen, almost like a stalker with superpowers. But those elements were such a small portion of the movie and it was so good, that I still enjoyed it.

When I first saw this film, I was 11. Now I'm 22, and I have to say it's now one of my more favorite Spiderman Movies.

I feel this movie speaks to everybody. Life goes by fast and we feel we must keep up with it. But, when you have the slow moments, take time to enjoy them.

Time is a luxury. We have very little or a lot depending on where we are in life. Let's not waste it

I love the amazing Spider-Man and the amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn’t deserve all the hate but I wouldn’t call it the best. Could work putting an unpopular opinion, I can respect that.

The Raimi ones will always be my favorite series for their overarching character themes, but I liked TASM quite a bit. It doesn’t deserve the hate it gets—Garfield was a fantastic Spider-Man, and that opening web-swinging scene is one of my favorite web scenes out of all of the Spider-Man films. TASM has its issues, sure, but I really think Garfield deserves that third film and I want to see how Webb would have finished the trilogy

I really admire your love for this. Maybe it'll help me enjoy it the next time my son puts it on. Especially this day and age of hate watching. I'm glad you and everyone in the comments can enjoy this movie despite the overwhelming hate. Keep on loving the movies you love!

I think it’s fair to like this movie but for me this is everything I hate about a Spider-Man movie. The first is okay in okay with it but I absolutely detest this movie. I don’t judge people who like it infact I envy you. I like that I got to see a new perspective on this film and while I still disagree and find this a boring mess I see it’s value. I’m glad it exists because there are clearly people who loved it just as I love Spider-Man 3 and I would hate to not have it :)

I don’t think tasm 2 is good but there is definitely a good Peter Parker arc in there and I never watch it for it’s story instead I just watch it as a sad romantic story between Gwen and peter and if u watch it for that u would absolutely love it also the visuals and fight scenes are the best we seen in a spider man movie mark web killed it just that the writers are what messed this movie up and the best part about this movie is Andrew Garfield he is the embodiment of spider man from the comics for his sarcastic humor and care free attitude. Tasm spider man is the best on screen spider man and hope we can get at least one more solo film.

Calling this movie "Perfect" is objectively wrong. Not that this isn't a great film, but calling this "perfect" is just insulting. Again, I have to say, I love this movie, just is NOT perfect.

I was unsure of why I have had no issue rewatching it recently and remained fully invested, despite viewing it negatively and being unable to do so with most other movies, especially spidermen movies. I had lots of fun watching, as this movie symbolises my growth as a person into being able to choose what I like and don't like (in other areas of life) without the input of others being a deciding factor. Listen, I do like this movie, I really do. But I like every Spider-Man movie also, and personally, I think the first amazing Spider-Man is the best superhero movie period and if not for far from home saving the new Spider-Man trilogy then I would always rather replace Tom hollands Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield’s in that andrews Spider-Man joins the avengers right after the amazing Spider-Man. Was a missed opportunity, I think still. Even then, this movie has more problems than several Spider-Man movies.

Finally someone who thinks like me. I will always defend and love this movie with all my heart. The arguments for trying to justify why this movie is bad makes no sense, people are so stupid.
Those out of MCU Spidey movies feels much more like a Spider-Man movie than a Marvel movie, if that makes sense. And I think No Way Home made this movie even better than it always were, cause there’s that sense of closure for this story.

I have a special place in my heart for the old comics with Peter and Gwen and this movie is a love letter.

ANDREW GARFIELD IS THE BEST SPIDER MAN EVER

Watching tasm and tasm2 when i was 8 and it was one of the best spiderman movie i have ever seen even to this day. i grow up watching all 3 of tobey spiderman but i still love this more.

When I first seem it in 2014 I think I felt good about it but kinda avoided my thoughts on it and jus let it pass becuz it gave spidermna 3 vibs with 3 villains but in actually spiderman 3 is great and I was only mad venom died . Lookin back now amazing spiderman 2 really is amazing and they should get a sequel bringing rhino and green goblin Dane dehan back !

The amazing spiderman movies are wayy better than all the mcu spiderman movies. Green goblin is freaking creepy yo love it everything. And it gets better the more u watch and compare to mcu spiderman movi3s. Andrew Garfield is wayyyyy better than Tom Holland.

Of all the Spider-Man live action films, this was the closest to the feel of the 90’s animated series IMO. A big world solely about Spidey lore, with a lot of world building supporting characters.

I went to a premiere of this. And ever since I’ve always called this my favourite Spidey movie. I’m not trying to be biased but I understand the mess that it is and people’s criticism of it.

I don't know that I'd say it's the best, but I have a huge soft spot for it and it's such a breath of fresh air to hear something actually giving it the respect it deserves. Screw the haters who insisted it was worse than Spider-Man 3.

Are used to be an amazing Spider-Man two hater but very recently I decided to rewatch the movie and the original amazing Spider-Man movie, and and not be looking for trash because originally I always trashed this movie just because it’s the amazing Spider-Man two that movie sucks but now we’re watching this movie. This is not a bad movie. It’s OK but I like it.

Both TAS films are underrated. I think it has flaws but there no where near as bad as people say. To me Andrew Garfield is by far the best Spiderman. He captures everything that Spider-Man is. I just love how quipy he is in the suit. He's always being sarcastic and funny with villains. I feel like this Spiderman has a connection to the public too. Like how he says hello to the citizens and the part where he walks that kid home is just such a bloody fantastic scene. That whole scene just screams "Spiderman". Also it's honestly amazing how expressive Andrew Garfield Spiderman is whilst he's wearing his mask. You don't get that at all with Tom and Tobey. You can literally tell exactly what expression Andrews face is pulling when you literally can't even see his face! That just shows how good an actor Andrew is. Speaking of actors both films by far have the best actors. Andrew and emma are phenomenal. There chemistry is incredible. You believe in there relationship so much. The actor playing Harry is a very underrated actor and so is aunt May actress. Because the actors are sooo good all the interactions and conversations between the main characters come across so believable and real. Way more believable and real than any other Spiderman movie. Andrew is the best Spiderman. Emma is the best Spiderman love interest and TAS aunt may is by far the best version of aunt may too. The score for these two films is spectacular. It might be the most heroic superhero theme ever. It draws out such huge emotions from the audience

I cant believe there's actual fans of the TASM films! Other than Green Goblin feeling forced at the end, I actually really love this film! Cut out the Rhino crap and add more Harry scenes to build a better connection and this film would've been perfect

I thought that I was just nostalgic and that’s why I liked this movie so much after rewatching it I love it even more. If you say that there is too much in the story, your mental capacity just isn’t good enough because understood and stuck with all of it. The only thing they could do is clean up the ending a bit and I don’t mean in the way most people mean. We don’t see what happens to Harry. He should’ve either escaped or gotten beaten up by Peter and had him question himself after his actions. And how you start TASM 3 could be the rhino fight but he loses. Someone else from the sinister 6 comes in and saves Rhino, getting the jump on Peter and they escaped. But yeah. I seriously don’t understand the hate because it was all put together so well.

people talk about too many villains here bc it has 3, yet forget rhino has 2 small scenes, that exist to show andrew's spider-man on a context outside of the plot of the movie, on an day like any other
they focus on any negatives they can see as the only thing this film has, when its so much more
they talk about gwen stacy and her father's death being predictable, but i didn't know all the spider-man stuff before watching and it was all done amazing, without knowing it is coming, it is a shock
andrew garfield did an excellent job, the cinematography is on another level, the soundtrack is the best
it's not perfect, but i'll never understand how the popular opinion is that this is the worst one? and even if it were, spider-man movies as a whole are pretty damn good, why is there such a focus on this?
the only spidey movies that may win over this one for me are sm2 and itsv, but this one does NOT go down without a fight
