Parts of this world is so sad and dark.

Unbelievable, this guy, who meets escorts all the time, is in the bathroom, slamming whiskey to sooth his nervousness..

Intriguing on so many levels ..... just humans being?

She discovers who he is because he kept her on his phone's wallpaper. Meaning that he did not escape to start a new life after her mother's death. So why to adandon a young girl if not by selfishness? Some people can be overwhelmed by former wounds, that reopen with traumatic events. Alcoholism could have played a major role. But as a rich articulate man there is no rational reason he could not at least materially provide for his step daughter.
There are weaknesses in the explanation, like prostitutes helping lonely men when actually most clients are married men, or the alcoholic but rich stepfather losing track of her. But that's also the missing parts in the reasoning that makes the situation not only shocking but also intriguing.

How can he not recognize her???

The moral of the story is to not become parents when you are not ready to be bound by parental duties.

I know everyone's taking the girls side but honestly, the guy probably had his own circumstances.

Excellent short film. Wish it was 20 mins long to flesh out the story a bit more but i like that thse short films allow the mind to imagine 'what ifs'.

My observation.

Wow. After 10 years he still has a picture of 'his wife and daughter ' as his screensaver/lock screen. That's true love.

He is a widower still mourning his dead wife and drinking away his pain.

Still hasn't moved on, no relationship, but everyone wants intimacy and needs to be held.

He had no legal claim to his step daughter and even if he was allowed, maybe didnt think he was the best person to raise her.
Probably wanted to distance himself so she didn't see a broken man falling apart.

Understandably, She seems emotionally hurt by his estrangement.

We know nothing of her real father's involvement or any other family.

Would like to know what happened in those 10 years.

It's strange to see how we're conditioned to understand and sympathise with the female situation and outlook, but men's experience is often overlooked.
