California skier and I started using my Athleta fleece lined tights as a baselayer this year - so perfect!

I ski locals' hills in Montana (with those slow metal chairlifts too) and can tell you that not all "out West" skiing is moderate temperatures XD Definitely dry though, that part is spot-on. For Northern Rockies skiing in -20F, I've actually been fine in a standard insulated semi-waterproof ski jacket + insulated bib, as long as I layer up with a thick midlayer. I still need to dial in my gloves/mittens situation though... sometimes (on the warm days, which we also get, especially this year) I overheat midday, the inside of my mittens gets damp from sweat, and then it's just a bad day.

Great recommendations! I also love the Stio inferno knicker as a warm base layer so that you don’t have legging bottoms in your boots. Also another great sock company from Steamboat is Point6 - great thin ski socks!
