Escape to the Mountains - Bonaventure River Canoe Poling & Fly Fishing Adventure (Full Documentary)

The one thing to remember is when you are casting the fly line don't go beyond 10 and 2 with the rod and on the back stroke let the line almost straighten out before you cast forward. It does take practice, I suggest practice on land without the fly

Always have chartreuse or a spinning rod with green blue fox foxes

I’ve been working my way through many of your videos. We are running the Bonnet Plume in a few weeks and your series on that river were useful for our intel and prep.
I am heading up there with my 3 paddling buddies who I’ve paddled with for 25 years. We ran the “Bonnie” back in 2004 from the headwater lake to the salt water. Unlike your trip, we ran it in May and were the first paddlers down that season. It was wild with lots of pushy rapids. We left our poles at home lol but were there before the salmon run. It is a trip we need to do again.
As an Atlantic Salmon fisherman though, I gotta say, the fish of 10,000 casts are not easy to catch. Kudos to you guys for giving it such a hard try and I’m jealous that you can make a living doing what you do and I only do it as a hobby! Cheers.

Man, trip like this with fly fishing for salmon I gotta have 8-10 days to complete that length. Lol maybe longer…..great scenery I’m stopping for 3 days at a beautiful site!

Hi Jim... love your videos actually you are ny favorite on you tube, but this videa makes me chuckle. Those salmons are not silly it seems. in these christal clear waters the can see the line, and i think they are also able to distinnguisha real fly from a manufactured fly. the last point i like to make is... many people visit this river through this comercial enterprise and the salmons jave learned to recognise people that come to catch and kill them. But i am only a 80 year old grandmother...lol... Good luck to these salmons...

I would just use an ordinary rod to catch those fish.. I think fly fishing is just a waste of time.

Further you get from the salt the harder they are to tempt..

Great adventure! My only comment is for fly casting don't whip it with your wrist. Let the action of the rod and the weight of the line do the work. Watch some fly casting videos.

The next time that you look at your film look at your spatula from our point of view it looks like a platypus beak. The part that you are using to stir the liquid is the beak, and it has an eye. It was really cool to see that

Approach the pool from the top before paddling through it. Cast a strait line 45 degrees to the current downstream and let swing through the fish. Skate a dry fly on the surface when they are jumping like that. Small flies and long leaders in clear water.

You will have 100% shots 1 hour before dark, I recommend a nymph with a red tail. Good luck! 🚣‍♂🚣‍♀
