When I was young, I worked 45 hours a week. I just didn't have a life. People have gotten sick around the world. We have worked too much tired, and we have lived a life without meaning. We really have to change it!

I'm a hospital worker. I used to have a 4 ten hour day. After pandemicsl, now 5-8 hour days plus mandatory overtime and weekends. Are webstretched to the limit yet? I wouldn't mind working 4 8 hr days wirh lower income, but employer won't budge for anyone. They'd rather over work us than hire more.

Initially, individuals may have been compensated for five days of work while only working four days. However, this is expected to transition to a compensation structure that reflects four days of work along with payment for consulting hours, totaling a 32-hour workweek. It's will help in reduce the employee salary budget by 20% and reduce the bonus by 20% since, base salary may go down.

It’s gonna go like this: you work 4 days a week but instead of 8 you work 10 hours a day totalling 40 hours a week. You will end up being even more stressed and overworked than you were before. Good luck!

Looking at the productivity trend at his time Keynes supposed by this time people would work about 15 hr / week, where have all those productivity gains gone? Doesn't take much intelligence to see where

It’s ok for “office / 9to5” work… but it’s not practical for other areas. Try getting your car fixed or enjoying your free time while others have to work double to service you. Yes pandemic was an eye opener but… you still wanted your pizza delivered buy someone working while you were at home and enjoying the “quarantine “. On top of that, to keep it rolling an employer would have to hire more people and implement shifts to compensate the days off of a worker… so, nice on talk but to put it to work… that’s another TED talk

In many ways the 5 day work week only truly sees one day of rest. Friday is a work day. Saturday though a day of rest is often a day full of activities and no rest at all making Sunday the only true day of rest and it's marked by the stress of knowing and prepping for work which continues the next day.

Nice, but for America, this is just a pipe dream. No chance of improving live until we get the corporatocracy out of government. Goes back to 7-day workweek.

I worked a 4-day 10 hr day week back in 1968 for more than 8 years before moving to another job. If we ever needed to meet our sales then we would do overtime on the 5th day. I never contemplated wanting to get an extra job. I looked at the three-day weekend nearly every week as a real bonus.

I would love to work 4 days a week; however, I can’t afford not to get the equivalent of 40 hours weekly Pay provides. I truly don’t believe companies would keep the same pay level by only working 32 hours. But I would be great idea.

Us millennials, Gen Xrs and Z will be unable to retire at this point with the aid of social programs so we get the prospect of working 5 days a week until we're too weak to work anymore and are dumped into a home, the street or simply die on the clock... Can we at least get a 4 day work week with our domination? 🤣

This concept completely ignores the fact that it does not work for service related shift workers. It further divides blue and white collar workers. If you can do the same amount of work in 32 hours that you do in 40, then something is wrong with your productivity.

It is clear to me that this is getting ready for the Sunday law which the Papacy and Jesuit I’ve been pushing for. This is lead into the one world order Sunday law. Using climate change as a disguise to get their agenda accomplish. These people are sneaky and if you don’t read through the lines you will be deceived. Jesus is king prepare your hearts, he is coming soon.

How do you explain that hard work historically has been associated with prosperity? Look at China or other Asian countries. On the contrary, look how far Europe has fallen with its emphasis on less work. Work less and produce more? Thats a wishful thinking.

I think this is relative to the ppl and work sectors.

More so the initial point that ## of jobs being quit doesn’t completely say ppl are quiting due to burnt out or dissatisfaction. We have gone through an entire workplace dynamic shift for white collar sectors by going virtual or remote workplaces. Employees have choices and bargaining power there. Also there’s an argument to be made that ppl working two blue collar jobs were given a taste of contracting and freelance work through apps like Uber, Doordash, and other gif economy jobs due to the pandemic. Those workers are able to quit a second job and take on gig economy work.

I personally disagree with the notion of 4 day work week will instantly and universally equal more productivity. As someone who works 60 hours plus workloads seasonally, the work that needs to be done is always gonna be there even if we choose a four day standard for 9-5 or 9-7.

A lot of you are missing the point. She's convinced you a 4-day work week while getting paid for 5 is a good thing, while she glosses over, the fact, that in trade for this 4-day work week you are going to lose your paid vacation, sick leave, and other company-paid benefits like insurance. Throwing out buzzwords and phrases like Climate Change, Systemic Racism, and De-Carbonization makes you think she's advocating for your health when she's really advocating for big corporations removing your benefits. She convinced you this can benefit "workers, companies, and society", when actually the only winners here are the companies lowering their overhead, by not paying benefits and spending less on training. "Government Help" and "Financial Support for lower-income workers" means more taxes, from you, to pay for it. This means not only will you lose company-paid benefits your money isn't gonna go as far due to all the extra taxes needed to supplement this plan.

She lost me when she incorporated all the leftiest ideology/obseesion with buzz words like sexism/racism , without data showing the total incidents why a 4 day work week combats this . She does threw these into her presentation to virtue signal but I totally agree with the underlying premise of the shorter working week 👏

Best employers know that they have to make sure that their employees love the job and are able to sustain a good professional / personal life balance. Working 5 days a week every single week is just too much, especially in high demanding jobs, and when you actually have to go to the office, loosing plenty of time and energy stuck between the traffic jam.
Working 4 days a week should be an option offered to every single employee, even considering a 20% reduction of one's income. And this should apply to high demanding jobs too such as Consulting, Finance, Computer Science...
Definitely one of the most USEFUL Ted talks.

Recently changed to a four day week and the difference is night and day. I come back on a Monday actually feeling refreshed and not just getting more and more and more burnt out week in week out. I don't ever want to go back to a 5 day week. I even managed to get a job that pays me more for those four days then I got working five days a week. It is the future of a healthy work/life balance.

Hypocrisy, tell us what is the real global master plan. Nothing gonna change. Immigrants today work 6 days a week plus 1 day on occasion. 7 days a week to meet their ends. After this big reset immigrants still work 6-7 days a week for longer hours. Who else will do your dirty jobs? Global climate will not change, people during their day off still travel or watch telly at home burning electricity. THE REAL MASTERPLAN is to phase out humans and open floodgate to AI. Get lazy, peeps. PS, this woman has never worked real work in her life. Observing work is not the same as doing it yourself.
