Legit? Porsche Cayman GT4 RS Nürburgring Laptime.

Hi Misha, I drove the GT4RS at Mugello, equipped with weissach package and Michelin Sportcup 2 (no R). The car was very oversteering when entering corners and cornering, despite correct adjustment of the characteristic angles. In my opinion, the front spring is too soft and when braking harder, it leaned on the pad. It wasn't possible to carry so much speed into the corners with so much brake, otherwise the tail tended to overtake you

What for a desaster. Porsche catch money with all overpriced specs but they dont have better quality it seems as BMW or Mercedes. But the people make her experience and decide if they can trust Porsche.

So I think Porsche was nervous that the Cayman could beat its big brother, the GT3 RS on the Nür.
That's a faster car for Hal the price....they sand bagged it.

I’ve had my 2022 GT4 for 3 weeks now and I will tell you that even with full aero and toe links, the GT4 (and GT4 RS) is handicapped by its full strut suspension and bouncy PASM tuning.

It has the mid-engine balance going for it, but it’s suspension is way less sophisticated than the 992 GT3

I have MCS 2-way remote dampers going on mine in a couple weeks.

Porsche's Frankenstein is the GT4 RS. They created a monster and now are desperately trying to control it.

What do I think you ask? I think I'm selling my M2 CS and getting one! Not getting any younger here

seems like whole front fenders are different when I compare them to production fenders, which have this recess behind wheel, vents are moved further towards bonnet as well in production fenders. This could as you mentioned mean they have had issues with wheel rubbing and had to move it further up.

Do they close the track for Porsche when they test cars?

Wheel base wider on the gt4
Shorter overall length on the gt4
Slightly shorter height on gt4
A small loss of power due to length of the exhaust. So how is it that the gt3 was 10 seconds faster? I honestly think they are underplaying the gt4 so that it looks slower im reality they made a cheaper and faster car but eased up on the time around the course

If porsche does not want to make the 911 look bad why not do this: Scrap the cayman. keep the boxter and put a mid engined supercar above the 911?

Great analysis! I’m with you on this (probably a few secs left in the GT4RS…). I’d say that part from driver (as you pointed out), BIG element for like for like lap comparaison are tyres!
It’s still a Porsche exercise to place the Cayman as slower than the equivalent 911.

A bit of tuning will wake the gt4 up. Especially since the same engine makes 525 in a gt3. 30hp makes a difference.

I thought his on/off throttle action was not good when I first saw the video. As an experienced racer, I would not do that.

No question the GT4 RS can go faster. What's exciting about that is the 992 GT3 RS should be an absolute screamer. Interesting regarding your take on the wheel well netting. Removed it immediately on both my 991.1 3RS and 991.2 3RS after experiencing fender rubbing on my 991.1 GT3

But Misha, if the louvres add to the scraping and Porsche wants to nullify the effect, why raise questions and not cover the holes from underneath?

Misha is like a savant when it comes to Nurbergring track times & vehicle performance. Not to mention the man can drive really fast himself! Apex needs a GT4 RS! (mid engine over rear engine all day for me)

The driving style comparison is so interesting. Lars Kern is a super smooth driver. In some cases too smooth i think. You can do be a little bit rougher on the car, and it would maybe be faster. The driving of Kevin Estre is the most outstanding driving i know. Its so entertaining to watch, because its agressive and a little bit over the top but, damn this guy is quick! Late on the brakes, rotation an out in a blister speed. And then there is the this "pumping the gas" driving of Jörg Bergmeister. I really don't like this. Its feels wrong! (I also some times do this pumping an hate me for it). I really think this driving does not fit the behaviors of modern track oriantated track cars in the context of Laptiming. So this is surely not the best possible laptimer for the car.

On the other site, there is still this rubbing issue which i read years ago about the first 991.1 cars? Shame on that guy at weissach who engineers this. i can do this better in the shed of my grandmother FULLSTOP. Maybe i sell you my ramps i use for clearence checking so you know it works? Its just 20 km away from weissach :D

At the end of the day.. I’m happy so see something like a Gt4 RS in these days. Not to long ago, even Gt4 was just a dream.

I guess Gt4 can do a better lap time than the 992 GT3, it will hit their sales big time, I was shocked from the nervous behavior in the lap test. Gt4 RS should have better cornering since its a mid engine, or at least what I am thinking. nice Video

I thought you were going to say they covered the vents because they didn’t want the car to be faster than the gt3, but had the vents on the car incase the car wasn’t as fast as they wanted and needed the vents to reach the time they wanted.

Here is my theory… this will be the 992.1 motor. It will be posted / marketed to make 475hp, rev to 8800rpm. Will dyno exactly the same as the 992.1 GT3 motor.

Covers on the front vents were to avoid bottoming out issues on the ring. Covers solve it but induce under steer that needs to be solved with lift oversteer.

Result is a slower laptime than 992.1 GT3. Marketing / brand achieves happiness. 992 customers retain superiority complex. Real purists and enthusiasts realize it is a better handing car.
