Jamilah is an orphan and lives in poverty. Her life changes when a trishaw-puller, Omar, marries her poor foster mother out of sympathy. For over ten years, Omar worked hard to raise Jamilah and enters her into school (Methodist Girls' School 54:01) so that she can get a good education. However, as Jamilah enters her young adulthood, her social circle expands and she makes friends with Salmah, daughter of a rich tycoon. At Salmah’s birthday party, Jamilah meets Salmah’s cousin, Hassan, a wealthy young lawyer. They grew to like each other. With the intention to marry Jamilah, Hassan hides her poor family background from his condescending stepfather. Eventually, Hassan leaves his mean stepfather to marry Jamilah and persuades her sickly stepparents to live in with them.
