This is probably the most unbiased opinions that I've read in a long time. I just found you today. This is the guy to listen to folks. First, he doesn't sing the praises of any particular DAW; not even the one he uses. (I watched the video on DAW choices just before this one). He is also a programmer and understands, for instance, the programming language of software. Also, it's not the most expensive that he'll recommend; it's what will get the job done. If it sounds expensive, well, maybe it's to do with the fact that you are recording audio. Like video and graphics, audio has a minimum requirement to get the job done. Don't shoot the messenger. Looking forward to watching more of your content. Cheers.
ОтветитьHi. This is by far the most clear and interesting video i ve seen about computers and music production.
I m a mac user since 2000, but planning to switch to pc, so i m currently studying a PC build. One question : any mobo recommendation ? So many models/manufacturers/specs....make the choice difficult. Thanks again, great video and great channel !
The fans in PCs sound better because I can't hear the fans in Macs.
ОтветитьSo what are your latest thoughts inthe closing month of 2022??? I am specing out a new pc build and I hope to be future proof for as long as possible. My last Firewire machine went 10 years before running like molases in winter. Great content, thank you!
ОтветитьThere's so many options for interface, my CPU has crashed and my mental ram is insufficient.
ОтветитьMy advice to this buy your computer for what you need, not what you want.
Example for rehearsals - I'm running a Dell e6410. It runs on a lightweight OS (Lubuntu), is a "huge" 8gb in memory... It has a Gen1 CPU, but upgrades have been done, so it has a bigger battery, better HDD (SSD) and I'm thinking about upgrading the second drive to an SSD.
Hardly the desired machine of everyone who does music.
However, it does what we need.
It sequences, it makes noise when we want it and it sits nicely in a snare stand without a worry (better all round airflow).
Oh a word of advice, don't use a huge SSD. They tend to add to the heat of a computer, especially in a laptop...
Dude, is that winter outside?
ОтветитьI have a question. I have a 4th gen nvme and a 3rd gen nvme. My motherboard has 2x m.2 gen 4 sockets, one of those sockets is controlled by the cpu the other is controlled by the chip set. So tge question. Should i put my 4th gen in the cpu controlled and install the operating system and daw on that? Or should i put the 3rd gen nvme in tge cpu controlled slot and install the operating system and daw on that and use the 4th gen in the chipset m.2 socket? In short what nvme should go in what slot and where should the operating system and daw be installed?
ОтветитьSUPER good video, Dex!!!!
Ответитьso im a bit of a tech simpleton, what actual computers would you reccommend?
ОтветитьI built a gaming PC with MSI X570 Unify motherboard, water-cooled Ryzen 9 3900X 12 core/24 thread CPU, water-cooled 5700 XT GPU, 64 GB for DDR4 3600 MT/s CL 14 Ram, and a 2TB NVMe gen4 M.2 boot drive and 4TB of NVMe gen3 M.2 for storage. I figure that should work well enough for creating music.
ОтветитьMac m1 air with 16 gb ram n 1 tb ssd or Mac book m1 pro with 8 gb ram n 512 SSD ..for music production. I need to keep it mobile so laptop.
Ответить200th comment
ОтветитьWhats the best SSD and how many Gigabytes
ОтветитьThe main difference between 10900k and 10900x is the no of Max pcie lanes that each support. 48 for the x variant and just 16 for the k variant. It means the X variant offers more upgrades in terms of nvme ssd which utilize pcie slot.
What I understood is 16lanes dedicated for graphics card and atleast 8lanes for nvme(4×2). So we have a minimum of 24lanes that is required for a well balanced PC for music creation. One can run Plugins in one nvme, virtual instruments in another, etc....That will avoid stressing just one storage.
What do you think?
Excellent video.
ОтветитьAwesome video.
ОтветитьCan you switch from mac to windows. If doing music productions at home on mac and then your on the road a and only have windows PC can you operate between tha two......?
ОтветитьLol the cough at logic haha. 🤣
ОтветитьI’m researching now for a new music pc and your information is super helpful - thank you 🙏
ОтветитьRAM 16gb dual vs 16gb single ??
ОтветитьHelp...need a new computer...
ОтветитьVhat
ОтветитьGreat vid! Though Solid State Drive does not mean "as opposed to a loose state spinning magnetic platter drive". Solid state refers to using solid semiconductor crystals (silicon, gallium arsenide, germanium), which is what transistors/ICs are made of (in our case, flash memory). The term was originally used as opposed to vacuum tubes
ОтветитьHe made this 1 day before Juice WRLD Dies Rest in peace
ОтветитьSo what computer?
ОтветитьDo you have any thoughts about hp Omen 17.3 16gb 1tb 512ssd
ОтветитьI cant believe he didnt mention a sound card!?
ОтветитьI got AMD Ryzen 3900 12 Core
64 gb ram (124 soon)
RTX 2060 Super
2tb storage
And I still get pops and crackles no matter what interface I use :(
Helpful 🙏
ОтветитьVery helpful, many thanks!
Ответитьis acer preditor helious 300 a music production worthy laptop?
Ответитьi9 10th gen + m.2 SSD = beast mode DAW machine.
ОтветитьI haven’t seen a Maxtor drive in about 15 years, you probably can’t give that HD away
ОтветитьI'm done with computers! I'm going hunting. It's always simple in the woods.
ОтветитьHey! What would you say about amd ryzen 5 3500x with 16 gb ram, 500 gb ssd and 2tb hdd and nvidia 1650?! Could you suggest anything better than this around this price range?!
ОтветитьWhat would be the absolute most potential deriving and best sounding cheapest bundle one could get for say like 1500? I would venture to say that..at the risk of sounding like yet another deluded musician that thinks they are great but actually really kinda sucks and is like everyone else and lacks any outside of the box creativity..lol..that I could make something that doesn't suck as much as everyone else that does this shit. Lol. ;) if if that rambling ramble makes any sense..but yea..
ОтветитьGreat video. I just thought of a newbie question. I've been wanting to dive in and build another computer. I'm a Windows user, running Windows 7, and was hesitant to install v. 10 after a lot of friends said it wasn't as smooth. If I build a new system with an i9 processor and 16gb of ran, SSD ... will Windows 7 handle the hardware especially since there is no updates for it any longer? Thanks
ОтветитьUsing a macbook 13 inch and producing on FL Studio guess is not the best combo.
Any solutions to the overheating issue? Within minutes my laptop overheats and I can hear the noise in my voice recordings which frustrates the hell outta me. I'm on a low budget now so I can't buy another computer, I will in the long run though cause I'm sick of this :\
Very interesting!
But what about: "Latency?" How much do I need and where can I buy some?
Joking but seriously...
These new AMD processors... how are they with latency?
192 kHz with 24 buffer?? Yes???
thanks g keep it up, good info
ОтветитьWhat is the best choice for music prodution
Ответитьsuperb series...thanx
ОтветитьThinking of getting one of HP Z workstations, either Z2 G4 mini or Z book Studio. Would you recommend one?
PS don’t get Mac Mini 2020 i7 - got two and had to return both due to grinding noise, most likely due to faulty capacitors. Both were from same batch - serial started with same 4 letter number combination
Loving your video mate really educational. You mentioned 1TB minimum, do you think having a 500GB SSD on the Mac and then a 1TB external SSD for samples etc will work just as good? Or should it be on board
ОтветитьSo why do u never refer to competent PC's..I need a thunderbolt 3 computer recommendation for no more than $1500
ОтветитьThanks for the guidance. Used this video to purchase my pc. I didn't know better, but for years I was running maschine on a Mac mini with no hiccups 😅😅. This was the 08 model I believe. Ran it til the screen turned blue (didn't back ANYTHING up).
ОтветитьI using FLStudio since 2003 now. I noticed that Intel works better with that DAW than a AMD. In past i used FLStudio on a Laptop.. while producing it burned something and the Computer was broken.. - I bought a new Computer.. also was an AMD.. i produced... flashes comes from my power adapter and smoke climbs up the air.. - I changed to a Intel Laptop.. yes.. it was a bit better, no burns.. no smoke.. but clipping Sound when use too much VSTs... so i sold that Laptop.. - then i build my first own PC with an Intel Core2 9650 Extreme with a separate Soundcard (Creative Sound Blaster Z) .. - Yes it was much better. Less Latency but very bass heavy sound.. i not liked it.. it was too much bass.. - then i changed my Soundcard to an Asus Xonar DX2 PCI Soundcard.. the Latency was under 2 Milliseconds and the Sound of that Card was really great.. - then i changed the System again to an Intel i7-7700K.. and it was hard to find a Mainboard for that Socket where i can run the Asus Soundcard (because PCI was dying - everything changed to PCI-Express).. but i found a Mainboard which had an old PCI Slot .. it was from Asus too - The System worked very well with FLStudio, but then the Mainboard broke after some months of use, but gladly i had warranty on it.. the dumb was... they not had that Mainboard anymore for exchange... so i got my Money back and i had to change again.. now i have one of the new Mainboards without PCI... it only have PCI-Express... so i not can use that great Asus Soundcard anymore (i still have it.. maybe someday i will build a other Computer).. but the Soundchip on the Mainboard is powerful.. i can work with 24-Bits and 48000kHz.. and more if i want... it sounds great, but now again... when use too much VSTs.. Sound is clipping... now i ordered a USB-Interface from Steinberg (U22C) and i hope i now will have my Peace with all of that.. especially the 32-Bit and 192kHZ are very interesting to me, because i like crystal clear Sound where i can hear from where direction every single Sound comes from.
