Asking Software Engineers What They Actually Do

I just applied for my first job as a junior developer yesterday doing python, Ruby on Rails, Java. It feels odd being a 36 yr old welder and breaking in brand new but. I’m here for the journey. I’ll keep y’all posted

People claim that they work as " Software Engineer " although they do not have an engineering degree, they majored in CS.
What Im saying is that software engineering is not the same as CS , " Engineering " is a much harder major than CS and engineering aims to more complex and a deep dive into the computer engineering part . At the end, you are a software engineer if you only have an engineering degree !

Taught myself HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React and know basic PHP hoping to get Junior positions soon! :) Goodluck to everyone who’s on the same journey.

I just signed up for a 9 month software engineering bootcamp starting in February. I am very excited about jumping into this industry. I have been in HR for the last 3 years and graduated with a bs in business management. I hope everything goes well and I can find a job!

I secured my first job as a Software Engineer at the age of 39. So do not feel discouraged if your a bit older than the people in this video. All you need is passion and a lot of hard work. Enjoy the journey.

Coding is a means to an end. There are so many soft skills that are needed to build software, communication being a big one and also the ability to learn quickly and persivere through the unkown as well as knowing when to ask for help and work with a team

I always find it odd when people say "social skills are MORE valuable than technical skills in tech". They are valuable yes, but I wouldn't say more valuable if you are doing the actual engineering / development.
