Mary was the most humble in the Temple and would have never disobeyed. Mary was also not a child when betrothed to Joseph. She was of the age considered to be adulthood. Joseph's staff did bloom as depicted, but Mary would never have behaved as depicted here....whiny, sullen and impish or coy. Her piety and purity were rock solid, as was Joseph's, both, having made vows of chastity. Finally, Joseph never doubted Mary's purity. He doubted his own worthiness to parent the child he knew she carried and only wanted to put her away quietly because he felt unworthy of the calling. The signing of the marriage contract occurs at the betrothal. They are married canonically according to the old laws of the faith at that time. Joseph had just not yet taken Mary into his home. He was likely preparing it for her.

Um...Jesus would not have answered falsely when asked what he was doing when he slept by the donkey and healed it. He is God, He cannot lie. The very suggestion that Joseph would have struck his Lord and Savior is repulsive and wrong.

He was wrongfully arrested, falsely accused, beaten, mocked, spat on crowned with a crown of thorns. He was then led out to Calvary/Golgotha(Place of the Skull) known as Mount Calvary/Golgotha hill and crucified on the cross of Calvary/Golgotha hill before being buried a tomb(cut out of a rock) in a place called The Potter's Field of Blood(today known as the Garden Tomb of Jesus Christ where He rose from the dead on the third day before His ascension into heaven). Jesus was Mary's only child. Her only Son. Begotten Son of the Living Father God. Yes He was crucified for all the wrongful reasons but this was part of God's plan for Jesus. Conceived of the Virgin Mary, birth in a Bethlehem stable born in a manger where stable farm animals ate hay ,to being presented to the temple by elderly man Simeon who said he would not die until he's seen the baby Christ and he did. 12 year old Jesus during Passover went to the temple where Mary and Joseph found Him giving people a sermon on the temple steps before leaving home to begin His ministry, being baptized by His cousin John the Baptist the son of Zachariah and Mary's cousin Elizabeth before John was beheaded. Then came the wrongful false arrest, imprisonment, trial, flogging/beating then the crown of thorns placed upon His head before the famous Via Dolorosa walk to Calvary( Golgotha in Hebrew means Place of The Skull) and crucified there the Garden Tomb burial and resurrection before ascension into heaven.
