Quick correction to this video: Echidnas aren't marsupials but monotremes, a unique group of mammals that lay eggs. Still an interesting example of convergent evolution!

I am coming straight back to you when tic tac aliens turn out to be dog/unicorn hybrids and tell us that every other alien lifeform look like they do, and it's us that are the odd ones out.

I just started rewatching The Original Series of Star Trek & encountered the “Uni-Dog”. I nearly burst a blood vessel laughing so much, mostly at the Uni-Dog’s completely bored expression. Getting split in two & remerged was the most excitement that poor biological form had had in its entire evolutionary history.

We will never know what extraterrestrial life looks like. We will never know until life has been discovered and evaluated by public scrutiny. So far, only speculation and probabilities have described what E.T. will appear as. In fact, we may never know! Our pathetic attempt of space exploration leaves us with major problems trying to explore within our solar system. Space exploration will require a vehicle like the Starship Enterprise with a method of travel at multiple speeds of light.

One thing to always consider is that most negative traits or side effects usually won't result in selection out of the gene pool. Take spine issues, cancer, dementia, or low intelligence/strength. In a civilized world, most individuals would not see significantly reduced genetic success from any of these due to the age of onset or insignificance to genetic attraction or survival.

This is why I doubt humans would or could ever have any direct contact with a technologically advanced alien lifeform. Their biological needs - from air to gravity - would be so, SO different. And imagining alien invaders from another planet would be like depicting aquatic animals coming out of the water to invade our surface world.

I think the actors with clay packed on their faces talking with New York accents in all the Trek franchise outings - esp Deep Space Nine - are just as hilarious as the horned doggie in ST: TOS. It all lies in our willingness to suspend disbelief when tv budgets control the universe.

Also, don't forget the difference in oxygen levels: before there was way more oxygen on earth, resulting in insects who are much, much bigger than we have now.

I’ve always thought about this, and I honestly feel like it’s objectively impossible. The moment any human artist tries to depict an alien, it will always have some form of influence from a human. As much as I absolutely love Geiger, even Alien has distinct gothic and industrial elements in the design. I find this really fascinating and I don’t know how we might ever depict something truly alien in art

Humans are ridiculous when it comes to imagining other sentient life forms. We can’t get it right when standing on a beach.
Yeah, that whole, Humans are the Greatest Thing!!! Isn’t necessarily true.
In actuality, humans, as a race is kind of a parasitic infestation.
The world couldn’t care less if you were here, the world will survive without you. Good riddance.
Now, who, is there, to care?
