ОтветитьCrash twinsanity is most of the communities favorite design, the in game model dose look better but the renders aren't bad where as most people are unhappy with his crash 4 render. Im not trying to complain I just thought I was interesting I really like you videos keep up the good work.

ОтветитьYou have a point about the huge eyes and hands in Sonic Prime and Sonic Boom and maybe any well animated 3d TV show or movie they look kind of good but in some renders and in-game animation they look really weird.

ОтветитьWhat do you think of the renders for Sonic Superstars, Team Sonic Racing, and Sonic Dream Team? Or even the ones from Runners? Just out of curiosity.
ОтветитьAs someone who’s pointed out for over a decade, I don’t think it looks BAD. That’s gonna be seen as an exaggeration looking back on this in some years. Same with the green eyes thing.
But it does look meh.
And also I will point out this started in Sonic Heroes. It was transitioning at least. In Shadow The Hedgehog they use the same models but the renders are clearly the modern looks. Sure each game makes minor adjustments but it’s the same basic models.
I also think Sonic’s head is LESS round now and more square. It was round before.
And I don’t think the Colors Ultimate render looks better. I think the pose and part did the body are better but the head and face are a wtf for me. lol

Though I will always miss when they did unique artstyles for different games like Free Riders, and the whole punk feel of the Adventure era
I always pretnded to like these to like these renders but know heres my complaint
The renders look rushed, like they moved the same sonic model into diffrent positions and screenshotted it and called it day(kirby did the same but stopped in k8rby planet robobot), and i always thought the characters looked weird especially knuckles, and the last thing is they been using the renders since sonic 4, i genuinely think they originated from that sonic mobile game.
for me the model is good but the textures are like too flat but in my opinion i really like the art work of sonic rush because is like the sonic adventure art style but better it will be allways my favorite sonic style, i remember one day like in 2013 or something like that, i go to the mall, and i see some sonic keychains of that style and I had a sonic and a super sonic that I no longer have because I lost and probably there are very rare but what i remember is that they were rubber but that was like 12 years ago and i cant remember.

ОтветитьNo. You're not wrong. They could use a redesign. A more significant redesign at least in terms of proportions. I like the 06 model of Sonic and wished they just toned the edgy look a little to him and left it as-is. That promotional redesign looks perfect!

This level of pedantry is nothing compared to that video about Luigi's gums.
Does Sonic always use the side mouth now? In the games at least, I think the cartoons and movies use a centered mouth. A lot of the time it looks awkward and distracting, especially since it only switches sides when there's a camera cut. If he turns around you see him talking out of the wrong side of his face.
SA2 did it best by using centered mouths most of the time and only using the side mouth for smirks, like in the first and last cutscenes of the hero story. I miss the hand-drawn art and dynamic poses too. Apart from Mania, I think the last games to use them were the Rush and Riders games.
Classic Sonic works as a blue ball of clay because the whole world is like made of plastic like a rubberhose cartoon. But Modern Sonic tries to be realistic and at the same time cartoonish and at the same time the characters look like made of plastic.
They tried to be more anime but they don't dare to even change just the SHADING of the models.
Or if they want all to be more grounded and realistic give Sonic SOME textures for god's sake.
In Frontiers Sonic looks like made of PLASTIC but not cheap plastic more like an official branded figure, like out of Crash Bandicoot 4 but the scenes look like out of Ratchet and Clank with the hyperdetail.
Sonic has been a Blue Ball of CLAY for the last 20 years. His model never got any update besides more polygons and new shoes (and not so much since Unleashed.)
That's why the model feels so DATED.
The closest thing in terms of improving the model was made in PRIME, a TV SHOW (Netflix but it's basically the same at this point) they finally dignated to give Sonic some details like quills and those are just plain textures.
When people talked about their problems with Frontiers world design being too realistic you couldn't help but get the same MORONS saying "but Sonic has been always realistic!" Yeah man, nope. Sonic wasn't ever made to be realistic he was made to be exaggerated and cartoonish.

The SSBM Akaneia build is probably the best Sonic has ever looked.
The 3D renders just suck. Their mouths look weird and nasty and now they look like bland Disney characters.

ОтветитьPosing, lighting, and overly subdividing/smoothing the mesh. There are no hard edges anywhere to create contrast or personality. Leaving everything looking kinda blah. Nintendo does this too. In some ways being restricted to a lower polycount was better for 3D Sonic.
ОтветитьAs someone that knows people that have designed some of these promotions. From what they tell me that they are barely given any things to help them promote something. The sega team would even ask them to go back and change the expressions of some of the characters just to look more “appealing to everyone” it is the definition off hell that these people have to go through having to downgrade the characters over and over just for sega to approve

They were everywhere. You couldn’t escape them.

ОтветитьI feel like they are too focused on making the 3D models look exactly like 2D models which just doesn’t work. In the comics their big hands and exaggerated features overall looks great and full of character, but not so much in 3D. I wish they changed some things like the big limbs and just made them more comfortable to operate while animating and all. I don’t think anyone normal would get mad if they looked a little different than the 2D. Different medium needs different solutions. Hope that makes sense! Also that’s why I find Sonic Boom models perfect from an esthetic point of view.
