That's all nice and well in a VM, but on a real machine, possibly with exotic hardware, like the aspeed gpu, it's a pain in the ass.
Because xrdp uses xvnc that needs an xorg server running. Headaches

Remote desktop on Linux is an insecure, pathetic joke compared to what Windows Professional provides. I can't believe that after 20+ years, Linux doesn't have feature parity with Windows
On Windows, you can lock your screen (or leave it unlocked), walk away, and pick up right where you left off via RDP. Your Windows console (physical computer) locks the screen for security and privacy. Linux requires you to leave your screen unlocked, disable screensavers, and can't resize the desktop to match client settings choices like different resolution or multiple monitors. Meanwhile your cubicle neighbor can see everything going on at your system. Nevermind that other quality of life stuff is unavailable or janky, like audio, file transfer, printer redirection, etc.

As a reminder from Windows Remote is disabled in the Home versions(likely most users), it requires Pro or higher

I am having trouble when logged into my laptop and trying to connect as the same user using xrdp. It is a common problem, I found a solution several times in the past, but now I am unable to find the solution online. Any idea?

I've used xrdp for quite a while and the worst thing that I can say about it is: it's just so good to be true. It's fully rdp-complient, meaning that you CAN connect from windows\android Microsoft RDP client and use all deatures including shared USB, folders and clipboard, and in most cases the only configuration that is required is for you to start xrdp service and open the port.
XRDP + Remmina - and to be honest, I cannot ask for better solution for remote desktop.

Hello! Great video. I also use xrdp and it is great with Guacamole, as it can be used from a browser with a great compatibility. Greetings from Argentina!

I like this better than the built in 'Sharing' in fedora. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for introducing this versatile FLOSS terminal server for Linux.
It is such a shame that its RPMs aren't contained in the official RHEL package repos.
Thus I cannot install it on a host in our environment at my workplace as it won't be able to be patched and updated by our MSS automation.

Cool video, thanks Stephen! Would be interesting to see if you can copy files back and forth between Windows and Linux. That would be a use case for me, when logging in from work on Windows into home on Linux. Learned a lot again :-)

Hi Stephen, thanks for another great video. I'm sure you know that xrdp has been around for a while. I rely on it quite a bit in my home network, mainly because the performance of VNC is terrible, and because it requires almost no configuration.

I use Remmina, another amazing free and open source project, as the client. It supports VNC as well, so I can connect to any Linux, Windows, or Mac host in my network without any problems... and the performance is excellent.

I hope maybe you'll take a look at Remmina in a future video.
