I think Peterson makes a good point of distinguishing between the depressive mind and the person of tragic circumstances, but I’m not too sure if the two can always be distinguished? is it not often the case that a person is in dreadful circumstances precisely because they are neurologically depressed and cannot muster the will to engage with existence & its tragedies?

Though I suppose the takeaway prescription remains the same: take aim at the tragedies that remain unresolved and see how far that gets you, something like that?

My depression is most triggered when my grown children have problems. Especially triggered by my dil’s negativity and complaints about marriage and life in general. I know I allow her to bring me down. Can’t seem to help it.

Chaos to some people ... is order to other people. A primate example is how those in religion, want all others on earth to BE in their own personal religion, because to them ... THAT IS "order."

From the book … Guide for Living … Pope Pius XII … Selected Addresses and Letters of His Holiness

World Government

Address to members of the Universal Movement for World Federation, April 6, 1951:

Your movement gentlemen, aims at bringing into being an effective political world organization. Nothing is more in line with the traditional doctrine of the Church nor more adapted to her teaching regarding just and unjust war, particularly at the present juncture.

Here’s a parable that explains sadness:

Once upon a time, there was a mighty oak tree that stood tall and proud in the middle of a vast forest. The oak tree had weathered many storms, and its roots ran deep into the earth, anchoring it firmly in place. It was a beacon of strength and resilience in the forest.

One day, a fierce storm swept through the forest, tearing branches from trees and uprooting saplings. The mighty oak tree held fast against the wind and rain, but as the storm raged on, it began to feel the weight of the world on its shoulders. Its branches groaned and creaked under the strain, and its trunk felt like it might snap in two.

As the storm passed, the oak tree found itself feeling hollow and empty. It had weathered the storm, but at a great cost. Its once vibrant leaves had fallen to the ground, and its branches were barren and lifeless. The oak tree felt like it had lost a part of itself, and it grieved for what it had once been.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, but the oak tree remained bare and lifeless. It felt like it would never be able to grow again, that it would be stuck in its sadness forever. But then, one day, a small sapling sprouted up at the base of the oak tree's trunk. It was small and fragile, but it was full of life and promise.

The oak tree watched as the sapling grew taller, reaching up towards the sun. It felt a glimmer of hope and joy as it realized that even in its sadness, new life could still flourish. The oak tree realized that it had weathered many storms in its long life, and that it would weather this one too. It knew that it would never be the same as it once was, but it was okay with that. It had learned that even in its sadness, life could still find a way to grow and thrive.

The parable of the mighty oak tree is a story about the ebb and flow of life, and how even in our darkest moments, there is always the possibility of new growth and renewal. It reminds us that sadness is a natural part of life, but that it doesn't have to define us.

Love, Didee.

In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Translation:
Do you think that you will enter Paradise without undergoing such trials as were experienced by the believers before you? They met with adversity and affliction and were so shaken by trials that the Prophet of the time and his followers cried out: "When will God's help come"? (Then they were comforted with the good tidings) : "Yes, God's help is near."
Quran - Surah No. 2 البقرة
Ayah No. 214

We will surely put you to trial by involving you in fear and hunger and by causing loss of property, life and earnings. And give good tidings to those who remain steadfast in these trials: (155) when a misfortune comes to them, they say, "We belong to God and we shall certainly return to Him,'' (156) Their Lord will bestow great blessings and mercy upon them; such are the people who are rightly guided. (157)
Quran - Surah No. 2 البقرة
Ayah No. 155-157

Translation:
Wealth and children are an adornment of the life of the world. But the deeds of lasting righteousness are the best in the sight of your Lord in reward, and far better a source of hope.
Quran - Surah No. 18 الكهف
Ayah No. 46

Translation:
The life of this world is nothing but a sport and a pastime, and the life of the Hereafter is far better for those who seek to ward off their ruin. Will you not, then, understand?

Quran - Surah No. 6 الأنعام
Ayah No. 32
...Whosoever fears God in whatever he does, God will open for him away out of the difficulties (2)
and will provide for him from whence he could little imagine. And whoever trusts in God, He is enough for him. God brings His decrees to fulfilment. God has appointed a destiny for everything.
(Quran surha talaq 2-3)

I am so broken from everything ,I have become dependent on everyone for ,a ride and now my boyfriend ex or whatever ,is threatening me everyday ,and is begging me to leave ,I have no resources to make it ,I have built my home and it is falling down ,the debt pledge is in my name ,so me and my children and my g children are wards of state ,I can not fight this alone ,and it seems the home I wanted has done nothing but suck everything out of me .anti depressions make my depression worse . I am being forced to leave my home to save my life ,I have no choice ,if I am crying and upset he draws energy from me ,But will not let the monster come out of me without physically and mentally hurting me until he has won ,I feel like a sacrifice to all the narcs that want to keep me dependant on them ,but it seems like I am in an alien land kept from the coming together of anybody. Thank you .

I believe that the love of money has replaced the love of man. Man is like a dog, they want to hunt, search out, chase. Woman took care of man and kept him home the same way you would a dog. By taking care of them, feeding, calming him, showing affection....and man stayed home. Man has always had a love of money, They needed it for survival because they tied everything to money. Woman has fell in love with it lately. So now they hunt, search out and chase it. They don't keep man at home because they are running next to him.....So now man finds his wants, gets fed and shown affection from the corporate world and woman wonders why they don't stay home and do their job.

Omgsh this video is 💯% spot on. I’m sick of people telling me I’m depressed when I have a terrible life. The anti depressants just made me feel nothing, I might as well be dead without feelings. I live for the day as you have said, even on the worst days, hours, minuets etc… there is always some progress. I won’t use pain meds, I have learnt to live without them. Sometimes a moment for me is looking at sunflowers on my window sil. That makes me appreciate something in the day.

My 38 year old son died on June 18, this year. He fought brain cancer for 5 yrs, 4 months, after being given 12-15 months to live. People keep asking me how I'm doing. I tell them, I'm doing as well as expected. I have my good days and my bad days. It was helpful to know that it can take as much as one year to settle. I have gone through this before, when my first son, died at birth. It takes at least one year. Thank you Jordan, you help people so much.

It’s been one year today that my youngest son died, he donated his organs. My eldest son was in another hospital fighting for his life after receiving a life saving organ. I was going through (still am) one of the worst vindictive divorces that has lingered over 2 years. I was put on an antidepressant, received therapy, and have tried to get back to some kind of normalcy. Still, I am anxiety stricken (GAD) and have insomnia. I can’t stay on task for long, cannot focus on reading, movies or drawn out conversation. I just want to be left alone and avoid events where there are too many people. Trying to regulate my emotions. Not a situation I thought I would ever have to endure. My heart goes out to others who are trying to cope.
