So what his trying to say is a NO. Two great artists, so it’s a bit pitiful really.
ОтветитьWhat do you think of Art Garfunkels ability to sing?
Mapmaker: I stated years ago before he ended up losing his voice that his singing voice had been severely damaged by his drug addition to nicotine. Studies have shown that people who are addicted to nicotine in the long run are more cranky defensive, argumentative, and most of all irritable.
For example:
1)Garfunkel threw a backstage hissy fit when a staffer couldn’t instantly produce a tissue for his nose. Offered a paper towel, Garfunkel screamed, “I said a tissue!” — and threw it back,The tale sounds plausible in light of his cranky behavior while Reading poetry at a show at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in upstate Verona, Garfunkel stopped twice because a developmentally challenged person in the front row was making noise. Finally, he said, “I’m as sympathetic as anyone to the handicapped, but I’m trying to do a show.” A minder pushed the wheelchair-bound person out of the theater, leaving some in the audience feeling like they should have walked out, too.
Another good example of Garfunkels lack of maturity and defensiveness-
During one song, Paul Simon reported I think it was The Boxer, I made a mistake over when to come in, and it threw Artie off for a second,” he said.
“But it was an accident; it wasn’t intentional. So later, we’re singing Feelin’ Groovy, and suddenly Art just stops singing at the part that goes ‘Life, I love you’, and I’m just left there by myself, trying to figure out what to do. I assumed it was another mistake - no big deal.
“But then at intermission, Art comes up to me and says, ‘You tried to make me look like a fool on The Boxer,’ and I said, ‘No, Artie, it was a mistake. Mistakes happen, just like you forgot to do Life, I love you.”
“That’s when he looked me in the eye and said, ‘I didn’t forget. I just wanted you to see what it feels like to be made a fool of’.”
What should Garfunkel had done in that situation-
It never ceases to amaze me that no matter how rich or how famous someone is they often can turn out to be the most immature schmucks on earth.
Garfunkel is no exception he could have waited till after the show and checked in with simon and asked him if he was ok since simon made a mistake during singing the boxer-simon then could explain it was mistake-then garfunkel could explain how it made him feel angry.
Then what-
Well then I would ask why would a Paul Simon mistake make Garfunkel angry?
Has Paul Simon ever intentionally set out to embarrass Art Garfunkel?
And what you’ ll find is that there no EVIDENCE to support such a accusation that Paul Simon has ever tried to undermine art garfunkel-ever!!!!!!
Paul Simon has always made it clear publicly that he is very grateful and appreciative of the contribution Art Garfunkel contribution to his career.
He also has made it clear that he not only cares about him and would almost do anything for their friendship.
But Paul Simon has said he didn’t care for Art Garfunkels solo albums?
Mapmaker:He was only referring to his taste regarding music.
However I disagree with Paul Simon-I think Art Garfunkels solo albums on Columbia records are some of the most beautiful records of 1970’ and 1980’s. But thats just my taste in music, it doesn’t mean I dislike Paul Simon.
Paul Simon also has stated that he thought a lot of the songs Garfunkel recorded in his solo career aren’t as intelligent as he is.
Mapmaker: I also disagree with Paul Simon on this-Art Garfunkel has recorded a lot of intelligent songs
Wooden Planes,Sometimes when I’m Dreaming, Crying in My Sleep, Bright Eyes, Scissors Cut, Skywriter this is just to name a few.
What do you think of Paul Simons solo albums?
Well for the most part i think their fantastic-he’s a brilliant song writer
However there have been some songs he’s written that aren’t to my taste or I would have done differently.
For example-
Mapmaker:Well take the his last few albums Paul Simon recorded Your The One,Surprise,So Beautiful and So What,
Stranger to Stranger. The songs are really beautifully written and the musicians are fantastic however Paul Simon did not make any effort to put vocal harmony on any of the songs. This just isn’t Paul Simon by the way there so many others in the business guilty of this, but simon just singing solo on a whole album is boring and leaves the songs on these albums lacking a certain color and flavor.
Which why although people buy his records cd’s ect for their collection -they just end up on their record shelfs collecting dust.
Do you think he should have gotten together with garfunkel on those albums?
Absolutely not -Garfunkel has ruined his voice with nicotine and cannabis. Not to mention the fact that his drug addition to nicotine has severely effected his personality in a negative way.
But Paul Simon is very talented when it comes to putting together his songs he could have gone out their in world like he did with Graceland and found singers to harmonize with, and marriage them with the songs he’s created.
Whats the future of Simon and Garfunkel?
I don’t know and personally if they never sing together i could care less their contribution in music is timeless.
But it would be nice if Garfunkel went over and apologized to simon.
Do you think that will ever happen
Not really sadly I don’t believe he’s that mature.
I've been a big Simon and Garfunkel fan since 1966 .love their music. they are both excellent entertainers Paul Simon is a great songwriter and guitarist Art Garfunkel a great singer. what I don't understand and maybe someone can help me with this is: what exactly, specifically was it that caused such a rift in their relationship. I've read so many things and they seem so petty and trivial. I can't believe that these two guys who are so intelligent and creative would let these things separate them from Friendship-- just talking to each other .I'm not talking about going out and becoming Simon and Garfunkel again but these guys don't even talk to each other. what was it that was so egregious that caused a split. someone tell me
ОтветитьOne procedure too many and you too can look like a rock star.
ОтветитьSimon and Garfunkel shots on "You can call me al"
ОтветитьIt's too bad that as old men, they can't put the egos and show business BS aside and just be friendly to one another.
ОтветитьHow blessed am I .... I saw S and G with the Everly Brothers at the Pepsi Center in Denver. A once in a lifetime experience.
ОтветитьI still am no wiser as to just why they fell out..can anybody enlighten me?
Ответить
Gracias.
Holding grudges leads to regret later on. Its not a good thing at all.
ОтветитьIt must be annoying to keep being asked the same question for, what, 40 years? How draining to have to keep giving the same answers for decades.
They are two brittle performers, of mixed degrees of talents, given to odd personalities. Each is thin-skinned and, seemingly, given to holding grudges about even small slights. Simon is wise enough to know that being together is problematic and not worth the effort for his own safety/sanity. I suspect that Garfunkel feels the same. It is clear who has had more success with his talents, though, isn't it? That, I suspect, has also bred discontent.
What did he mean “:For Safety Sake “:? What would happen ?
Ответить"He called me short! Waa waa waa!"
ОтветитьWell thank you for the times together that you did share with the world. They were artistically poignant and beautiful. I hope you two don't go to your graves without expressing, indubitably, the good and that which you value, one in the other.
ОтветитьAs sad as it was when Simon and Garfunkel first called it a day in 1970 after six years together (minus their initial breakup in 1964 after the release of their first album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.--when Paul went to London and Art attended college at Columbia University for one year each until the duo reunited and made their next four albums together starting with Sounds of Silence in 1966), it's not like either man's career ended on the spot. Both went on to have their own successes and they did reunite briefly periodically in the process. Every group that breaks up has its issues. The Beatles and The Byrds each had their internal group conflicts that caused each band to break up and never permanently reunite from those points forwards in their respective timespans as bands. When the group dynamic no longer functions properly and healthily, it's time to move on. And that's what Simon and Garfunkel did without too much drama!
ОтветитьI don't give a damn if they ever sing together again. But I hope and pray they reconcile as friends (since childhood) while they still can.
ОтветитьIf the two men never met, I feel confident that Simon would have eventually become a household name. Garfunkel probably would have found success as a back vocalist. But how many strictly back vocalists do you know by name?
ОтветитьWhy does Paul's head look like Arts in this clip?😂
ОтветитьYou know, I dabble a big in Astrology. So I checked Simon and Garfunkel’s basic zodiac signs. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel have such majorly contrasting Sun signs, Rising signs and Moon signs, I now get it. They basically approach everything, including life, in completely different ways. It is actually a wonder to me that they were able to do ANY work together. But I love their music and always will.
ОтветитьHow ironic they write and sing a song called "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and then they destroy the bridge.
ОтветитьWhen and where was this taped??
ОтветитьWhere can one find the REST of the interview??
ОтветитьIf these guys needed the money they would have found a way to reconcile.
ОтветитьPaul’s voice has aged but he still sounds good but Art can’t sing anymore. Saw him trying to sing BOTW on Clive Davies birthday. He sounded awful.
ОтветитьIn a sense, groups, duos etc. are like a marriage; the union of personalities and characters. In this 'fallen world', there are pressures and forces working against us, and esp. if there are strong personalities involved with different ideas about things. Very few groups/duos survive for a whole lifetime. I appreciated their music and enjoyed their time together. They contributed much quality and meaning to modern music. 'Comes a time', as Neil Young put it.
ОтветитьCream broke Up and that was terrible for rockers.. fans
ОтветитьLook at it this Way ::: Getting Along Would Make The World A Richer more Quality Place The Fans would have memories maybe for their anniversary gift to one another having gone too their concert .....things like that...
ОтветитьSIMPLE JUST GROW UP FOR GOD SAKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьThere ain't no good guy
There ain't no bad guy
There's only you and me and we just disagree .....--Dave Manson - We Just Disagree--
I always thought Simon was extremely vain and conceited while Garfunkel always had the nicer and better quality voice and seems a much nicer guy. Simon has a rep as a very difficult person to work with. I personally think Simon is over-rated and I don't care who I upset.
ОтветитьYou guys need a good Queens smack in the head a good beating than and only than will they get back together.
ОтветитьPaul Simon wrote most of the songs and kept all the royalties too apparently! Present day bands usually agree to split royalties. It is such a shame they fell out, I have loved their music all my life but prefer the ones where Art Garfunkel sings. He just carries the songs and its questionable whether they would have enjoyed the same success without Arts beautiful voice.
ОтветитьIt's funny how 2 friends can grow to detest one another, but when one dies the survivor gushes over what a great person the deceased was. We all do it.
Ответитьold friends..
ОтветитьIs that Christianne Amapour?
ОтветитьHas he been drinking something?
ОтветитьVery vague. Exactly what is going on with him and Art? 🤔
Paul needs to stop beating around the bush and explain exactly what issue he has with Art. It is not as if they have to create any NEW music. It is just a matter of simply playing their old songs. Does not even have to be a tour. It could be an occasional concert at Madison Square Garden. How hard can that be?? If Paul has no interest in being a nostalgia act (as he alludes to here), fine, then just say that and move on. But Paul suggests that it is something much more than just wanting to move on musically. "Too much damage has been done" .. There is something far more going on here. 🤔
Indeed painful... But it had to be said once...
ОтветитьAttending one of their concerts was very fortunate for my wife and me in Detroit several years ago. We missed their concerts when they were new. Going to college and new jobs made it untenable.
Artie was always jealous of Paul, which was not apparent during their early career.
Frank Lloyd Wright song was written as a breakup song. Sad but beautiful. 😮😢
Huh?
ОтветитьI respect them both but what can possibly be so damaging to make them never reconcile. Just so curious
ОтветитьDoes anyone know what year this interview was? Where I can find the rest? So much context missing I feel.
ОтветитьStrange, I wouldn't have known they didn't get along by watching them, they were so good together
ОтветитьAll good things come to a end
ОтветитьPaul is a ass
ОтветитьAs long as they’re not in the same room together the relationship is fine.
ОтветитьThey were friends since they were 11. And both acted like they were still 11 years old for the rest of their lives. 😂
Ответить"It didn't work." Offstage.
ОтветитьApparently they recently met up, Good on Simon to be able to sit down and break bread with his old mate.
Simon was obviously the mastermind lyrical genius and musical director, but those harmonies were something else he had that because of Garfunkel, and Garfunkel had those wonderful lyrics and music because of Simon.
