Mine only runs that well when its freshly cleaned. After only a few clips I have to manhandle the bolt to cycle it.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to pull the bolt back from the firing stance, or am I missing something? Obviously the bolt comes back into your eye if you don't move your head, but that can be solved with a little adjustment of your neck.

You need to reload from the shoulder to be in the ballpark for rapid fire.

My instructor once taught me that if you want to fire the moisin like a real pro, you use your middle finger to hold the trigger so after you shoot you can immediately re-cycle the round

That's a bolt that's designed to be hit like it owes you money. I've noticed the same hiccup when reloading, It looks like the rounds had to be pushed down a tad further. At least that's what I've observed firing one of those.

my friends and i went shooting once and my boy tried to rapid fire his mosin and at one point just pulled the whole bolt outta the gun. he said it just happens with his sometimes. it was quite funny

Could easily out run you on speed shooting a Mosin. And you had a rim lock haha!

Yeah, just picked up a fairly clean, smooth-running Soviet 91/30 yesterday, and it really is near impossible to run the bolt while cleanly maintaining a sight picture. Going to put rounds through it tomorrow--never shot 7.62x54 before, but it can't be that much worse than .30-06. If it is, it'll just be that metal butt plate.

(If you're curious it's a '36 Izhevsk round receiver in what looks like later, wartime furniture, none of the serials match except the bolt matches the butt plate, no electro pencil anywhere. Veteran gun, very ugly but very beautiful at the same time.)
