Sasuke & Naruto should be considered as close enough in power at the end of the story that battle could go either way.
Some people say Naruto was holding back significantly doesn't even make sense cause if he was really so much stronger why have that drag out last fight?
Why didn't he just blitz Sasuke, knock him out and drag him back to the Leaf? In the series they do go back & forth but for a rivalry to remain relevant they have to be evenly matched at least for their last fight.... not wanting to kill an opponent does not actually equate to holding back. Also not having the desire to kill doesn't even mean you won't spend the whole fight try to kill them cause the lack of the desire to kill your opponent is not related to your combat ability or theirs.
